It's been three long years since Deadbreak. That's what everyone's calling it – the day the dead rose. Every day since then Jeremiah Reid has had one goal: to make his way back to his daughter. With his four-legged companion, Joe, Jeremiah has to travel a lawless wasteland teeming with zombies, bandits, and worse, like people who put anchovies on pizza (you know who you are). It's a new world out there and no one is safe. People are weary, cities are in ruin, supplies are scarce, and brains are on the menu. If he’s going to have a chance, he'll need his wits, a little bit of luck, and lots of ammo. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Great Read. Ok so I read ALOT. And while waiting for my very long list of followed authors to pop out my next fix I read suggested material and some features that pop up on here. Some are hit and miss, some I stop 3 chapters in and wonder if it's cliff notes version of a real story. However I found this little gem yesterday and it is THE best thing I've read in a few weeks. Gritty, funny, great characters, zombies, bad guys and more guns and one liners than you can shake a rotten limb at. Highly suggest it. ★★★★★ One of the best zombie books I've read in a long time. I've loved the zombie genre for a long time, but, for me, they have to be about the people, rather than the zombies as the #1 focus. These are disaster stories, and how the people get through them. This had everything I want in a zombie book: great characters, good dialogue, a story that progresses. Too often they break down to kill zombie, blood everywhere, on to next fight. This has characters who remind me of what one of the best, Mark Tufo, does. ★★★★★ A well written stand alone book. Sure it is post zombie apocalypse, but does that mean one can't find a witty main character with a loyal dog making their way across the country like a couple of pinball trouble magnets on a quest? Well worth the read. ★★★★★ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________"This is the greatest book ever written in the history of books, And writing. A billion stars." - Author's Mom. "Will you please stop pestering me? Fine, I'll write you a review. Two stars, because someone forgot to load the dishwasher again." - Author's Wife.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Overall, author Jorge Sanchez has created an excellent zombie romp, sure to please fans of the genre as a whole." -Reader's Favorite
"Deadbreak isn't just another entry in the zombie novel fad. It's poignant, gritty, and fun. It captures the high paced thrills and emotional distress that readers should expect from a setting where humanity has been pushed to the brink, then garnishes them with good humor, witty dialogue, and an exciting series of plot points." - Indie Reader

Such an entertaining story!
5 Stars
Such an entertaining story!
If you ever want to read an amazing zombie book with a main character that you cannot get enough of, then pick up DEADBREAK!! Seriously, Jeremiah Reid is one the best characters that I have come across in a while. I can’t help but love sarcastic characters who deliver witty tongue-in-cheek type dialogue. He was so fun but I also liked the other characters that were introduced in this story as well. Very memorable and strong! This is a book that I will be enjoying again in the future because I just laughed so many times! With that said, there is a serious element to this story but it is layered with tons of action, plenty of zombie killing, and many really bad jokes. Deadbreak was such an entertaining story and my sincerest hope is that this Author continues to write novels because I am such a fan now!

This is a typical storyline for this genre, but the main character is very likable. The reader can put themselves in the guy's shoes as he narrates his own story. He is an imperfect hero like any other person, complete with flaws, warts and all. Plus, I am a dog guy, and a story that includes a dog will get my attention. The author is a good story teller and a very good writer. There were some typos, but that hass to do with the editor and not the author. It doesn't affect the tale. This is light entertaining reading with no heavy lifting. With that said, I thought the action was well described, and some of the events involving people were realistic. I would recommend this book for the teens and above crowd.

I've read a ton of zombie books and there are some great ones out there...but this one is such a fun read. You'll laugh out loud and feel sad when bad things happen. It's just one of the best. Two thumbs up!!

The characters were clear, there was good humor, some good descriptions.

But it felt like watching a really long cut-scene for a video game, in that every time there was a problem, he'd shoot his way out, and there was very little tension as to whether he would succeed, never really needed to be clever. Nothing ever really surprised the reader. The pop culture references to modern western culture jarred a little bit...as if there were no cultural references in society in the years between now and when the book took place.

But I finished it without any struggle, and I didn't dislike it, and the humor sometimes made me chuckle. So even though I wanted to give it 3 stars, I had to give it 4.

I enjoyed this book! Normally I'm not crazy about a first person narrative voice, but it worked to bring the characters to life. The action was awesome and I really enjoyed the humor woven into the book. I haven't read anything from this author before, but I will definitely read more by him!

Sooo, I usually have 1 author I go to for my zombie fix, the man: the myth, the legend that is Mark Tufo. For whatever reason, this book snagged my attention and welp, here we are.

This book is freakin' awesome. Different spin added to the zombies so they were a bit different but that was cool. I can't say much cuz it will create spoilers and I abhor spoilers. Also, our group was stationary and I like that because I wanna see how the zeds are gonna get at 'em.

Ok, that's all except for an enthusiastic buy this now!!! You will enjoy it, I promise.

Has a great story line with well developed characters. Book kept reading every spare moment. Couldn't put the book down.

Ok, what sold me on this book is the main character has a dog, Joe. Totally reminds me of Darryl from TWD and his furry companion. And I love Darryl. The pacing of the book is very good in the beginning but drags in the middle. I became confused with the last chapter as I felt it didn't aline with the book's storyline.

Jeremiah was well written and for the most part I could connect with him. I would say he would be a mix of Earl and Darryl. Though at times his characterization was inconsistent and didn't fit. As with most zombie/post-apocalyptic stories, there is a degree of gore and violence but it isn't gratuitous. Ultimately, I didn't find anything that set this book apart from other zombie stories. It sort of felt a bit like fanfic from TWD at times. And I did like the way the author got into the minutia of the complications of community (almost a little bit of the Strain mixed in there).

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. There are funny parts and the pacing moves the book along nicely. Of course, Joe is a definite plus (I mean, the german shepherd from I AM LEGEND was half the reason I even bothered to watch the movie).

Great story. I liked the main character immediately. He started off as a bit of an oaf but when under fire, got the job done. Excellent story. The zombies seemed a bit of an after thought and never seemed to fit well in the story. If they were removed altogether it’s unlikely they’d be missed. Loved the glowies and the classic Romero bunch. Thanks for writing such a great tale.

...and really catching. It has all the action needed, the right amount of plot twists, the romance and a good dose of humour. Very nice indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't like Zombie stuff!

Ok, now to clarify on the heading. I hate zombie stuff. Always the same, gore and boring. I ordered this book because of the reviews and I am so happy I did. First of all, remember, this book is about Zombies and step into that unreality first. Now, everything you read needs to be taken with a grain of salt, and, of course things my seem a bit unreal-the book is about zombies!! Get over that part and just read how the author has drawn the picture. I loved the characters. I really enjoyed the action. I was so sad when I finished the book because I wanted more of it. Please take a chance, step out of your comfort zone and try this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different - in a good way
Reviewed in Germany on October 5, 2020
I have read a lot of zombie apocalypse novels and series.
Some of the really awesome, some really bad. This is somewhere in between. Why am I still giving it 5 stars? Because it’s different enough to be good and have something new in there.
It still feels unpolished and there is a lot of stuff, that hasn’t been explored in regards to character development, but the protagonist has some depth to him, that is missing in to many other books. He feels “real”.
