I'm a fantasy author, currently living in Minnesota. I frequently take my stories and characters off the beaten path, turning familiar concepts on their heads (mostly just to see what happens). I love creating interesting and memorable characters: outcasts, warrior scholars, angsty coffee-loving immortals, or business-savvy aliens.

Currently, I'm writing a humorous fantasy series about the adventures of a grumpy, immortal barista in an interdimensional coffee shop. I hope you enjoy them!

After settling in with the first chapter I knew this was going to be my kind of book! Why? I'm not a coffee drinker and neither do I hang out at coffee shops to write so I have to confide it is ALL because of the aliens. I love aliens and alternative universes that read more science fiction than fantasy.

Bracken enters Jaz's coffee shop with the intent of locating his aunt who he adored. However, he quickly finds out that The Defiant isn't all that it seems. It's a coffee shop that has imprisoned Jaz to serve as it's manager while it travels between seven different alternative worlds.

The story starts out humorous and with a sense of fun but as Jaz's true life within The Defiant is revealed, the consequences of Bracken's choices also become more serious. There is also a lot of coffee information so if are in love with coffee, you'll also love these details.

The seven different worlds contain humans, but also aliens and mob tigers. It gave me a hint of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and a bit of Tanith Lee (like her Drinking Sapphire Wine). An enjoyable read that I devoured in one sitting.

SPOILER - Just one mild spoiler so to make your reading less irritating - the coffee shop resets at midnight so that is why it doesn't run out of supplies. I mention this because I didn't realize what was going on and it was a slight irritation until explained - I don't think this mild spoiler is big enough to impact being surprised by other elements of the plot.

This book can be read as complete but is the first of three. You'll definitely want the next to figure out if and how Jaz breaks free of The Defiant - and dare I ask as a reader what The Defiant's real purpose is for existing?

This book is one of my all time favorites. While some of the concepts in the book aren't knew, the way Nelson uses them in the story is uniquely phenomenal! I took a chance on it (as we all do when choosing books) and am so happy to add it to my collection. I'm excited to see other works from the author.
In a market saturated by the same old stories, characters, and twists Jinn Nelson brings a refreshing thrill of adventure and mystery packaged in a wholesome (pg) format.
Everytime I walk by a coffee shop I think of this book 😉 Happy reading!

This story is simply amazing! It’s funny, emotional, creative, thought provoking, smart, and so entertaining. Jaz is everything a streetwise barista should be. Bracken is the best non-friend friend she’s had in a long time. Their relationship is what drives the story. I don’t care if the plot was plain gibberish, just listening in on their conversations will make the heart happy. I absolutely loved this story. Oh, and the book that Bracken receives is EVERYTHING. Thank you for this Jinn Nelson. I cannot wait for what happens next.

I recieved this book as a gift from a friend so I won't get the verified purchas thing on my review but I have to leave a review because This book was amazing. Amazing in how down to earth and real it felt for being about an interdimensional coffee house. The main character was kind of a b*tch but still so real and relatable and even lovable. Jinn writes such amazingly real characters even those with tiny "walk on" roles seemed to be full of life. I loved this book. I reccommend it to people who like Dr. Who, sci-fi, magic, and coffee.

Jinn's novel will transport you from realm to realm and get you so invested in the two main characters, you'll be begging her for a sequel. I loved this book from the first sentence to the last. There are so many quotable parts and exciting moments you won't want to put it down. Highly recommended

Seven days, seven different worlds. The detail and characters are well done. I am a coffee lover and a sci fi fan, so this book is exactly my kind of book. Anxiously awaiting the next book and hoping to learn more about each world.

I loved this book.
The story is delightfully quirky and witty, with a great concept that left me wanting more. The characters were fun and easy to love, and I was very invested in their stories. The worlds the coffee shop visited were all fascinating. There were so many moments that made me laugh, and plenty of sad and tender moments as well, sometimes within moments of each other.
I look forward to seeing how the characters' stories progress with the next books!
