Amazing Grace Adams (International Edition) Paperback – January 19, 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
Grace Adams gave birth, blinked and now suddenly she is forty-five, perimenopausal and stalled —the unhappiest age you can be, according to the Guardian. And today she’s really losing it. Stuck in traffic, she finally has had enough. To the astonishment of everyone, Grace gets out of her car and simply walks away.
Grace sets off across London, armed with a £200 cake, to win back her estranged teenage daughter on her 16th birthday. Because today is the day she’ll remind her daughter that no matter how far we fall, we can always get back up again. Because Grace Adams used to be amazing. Her husband thought so. Her daughter thought so. Even Grace thought so. But everyone seems to have forgotten. Grace is about to remind them …and, most importantly, remind herself.

5.0 out of 5 stars It had me laughing and crying. Amazing read
This book dragged me out of a reading slump in the best possible way! It had me laughing, crying, and most importantly, desperate to keep reading. It was such an easy book to read as I flew through the pages. The writing style just made it completely bingeable in the best way.
We follow Grace Adams both in the past and the present day. We find out through the chapters about the past, how she came to meet her husband, and have her daughter, Lotte. In the present day, Grace is picking up a cake for Lotte's 16th birthday- but things go far from smoothly there. Grace is perimenopausal and, quite frankly, will not stand for anyone's crap!
As soon as I'd finished I rang my mum and said you need to read this book, it's brilliant! I ordered her a copy, and now she is loving it.
Grace is a force to be reckoned with. She has had some unthinkable heartbreak. She has gone through the unimaginable, but nothing is standing in the way of her delivering her daughters birthday cake. Trust me when I say NOTHING.
It's very rare that a book can be so truly funny, but also equally heartbreaking, but this book achieved it so well for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars a difficult read
After reading the rave reviews of this novel, I felt somewhat at odds against the views of all the people who wrote them. Someone said it had humour, where ? This book left me feeling battered and bruised and in truth thoroughly depressed. My instinct was not to finish reading it, but this is not a habit I have ever had. My praise for the author would be that the strength of the writing was powerful enough for me to continue, as I was invested enough in Grace to wish to know how it ended for her and her family. However really the only part of this sad story that did not make me feel uncomfortable was the very end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! 😢
I was expecting this to be more humorous - 40 something woman has had enough of her life and needs to find herself again.
I was not expecting it to be so painfully honest and sad; there were times when I had to stop reading and take a huge breath in case I completely lost it 😢😢😢
The story is so well written, and it's easy to follow the different timelines.
I really enjoyed this book, even though it made me sad, the ending was positive and not rushed.
Would recommend and look forward to reading more by this author in the future

4.0 out of 5 stars Great and painful - but terrible cover
I wouldn’t have even opened this book thanks to the unpleasant cover if it wasn’t a book club choice. However I’m glad I did. The use of language is breathtaking- and the way that knowledge of language is used in juxtaposition to what is not said is really clever. I like the way that the story unfolded and that the complexities of the family’s lives build and build as she walks. Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I really enjoyed this book and identified with Grace in all the wrong ways. This is a riveting read for all women who are a certain kind of age dealing with a teenager and your body going haywire all at the same time. I loved all the characters and the twists and turns of the story as you find out what has let Grace to this point in her life.
I love the way the author writes and am eagerly anticipating her next novel.
