"Higley evokes a specific mood quite masterfully… A cozy, atmospheric fantasy for bibliophiles.” ~Kirkus Reviews
***
Kelsey dreams of a life filled with creativity.
She's about to stumble into far more than she imagined...

Kelsey Willoughby doesn’t have time to pursue her dream of writing a novel. Imagination doesn’t pay the bills, and she’s busy saving her beautiful bookshop from online competition, hotel developers, and the sneaking suspicion that nobody reads anymore.

Not to mention all those voices telling her she doesn’t have talent.

But then the vacant lot of weeds next door starts to shimmer.

When Kelsey stumbles into a luminous nighttime garden party, larger than the vacant lot that holds it and filled with enigmatic guests, she suspects they hold the key to saving the bookshop, and perhaps even to her own mysterious origins.

But answers aren’t forthcoming, not until Kelsey is willing to confront her past, step into her potential, and push deeper into the unknown edges of the garden, where an unexpected journey takes her into a world of dangerous revelation.

"With evocative prose and a deeply-embedded mystery, the magical realism of Nightfall in the Garden of Deep Time immerses readers in a delicious adventure of creativity and the arts. A must-read for anyone pursuing a creative life."

Review

"Higley evokes a specific mood quite masterfully, transforming the experience of browsing in an old bookstore into a novel."
~ Kirkus Reviews

Anyone who breathes was made in the Creator's image—to create in some way—and MUST read this book!
Nightfall In the Garden of Deep Time provides the balm for every human soul, giving deep meaning and purpose to the act of creating while relieving the need to achieve accolades for the things we create. Higley digs deep into the questions of our deepest motives for creating, and the barriers that keep us from it—both externally and internally.
~ Mesu Andrews, Christy-Award winning author of Isaiah's Daughter

I had a dream that started at the age of eight. It was audacious, but I didn’t know it at the time because I was eight. I was going to write a novel. This dream was big enough in my heart even then that I vividly remember the exact moment I wrote the first sentence.

But early rejection letters and harsh criticism nearly convinced me the dream was not worth pursuing.

I've since had nearly twenty novels published. But it was almost none. It could have easily been none. Our dreams are so easily crushed.

So remember: You have a purpose in this world. Something you are uniquely qualified to express. Don’t let it go.

As for the rest of my life, along my publishing journey, I have also earned a Master’s Degree in Ancient History, raised four amazing kids, built a shipping and logistics company, and traveled to Greece, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Italy, and Turkey, researching my books and falling into adventures. Life has been full and grand, and I still have lots of stories in my head, all trying to get out.

I'm currently passionate about landscaping around my 3+ acres of woodlands, reading good books (by a crackling fire in cold weather, outside near my pond & waterfall in warm weather), and traveling the world.

To experience my travel journals and see the exotic settings of my books, I hope you'll visit my website at TracyHigley.com.

In more ways than one. I could elucidate, but I don’t want to spoil your adventure. I will, however, ask the question, is time travel possible. No one can say for sure, but the possibility has captured the imagination of too many to entirely doubt its validity. Are miracles real, and do they happen? Yes, every day.

I loved the language, character development, pathos and humor. I loved the theme of corporatism versus creativity and how difficult it is for creators to make a living at their craft. The author interweaves this theme into the plot and subplots and explores the paths creative people must navigate, and the consequences of denying their gift. Your creation is the gift you give to the world, an act of generosity, not of pragmatism. The creator must accept disappointment and failure as part of the journey.

For me, her descriptions of The Garden and its inhabitants was a total delight. All the famous artists were addressed only by their first initials.... Agatha Christie - "A", Charles Dickens "C". The mood is gilded era opulence and style, with musicians, poets, writers, artists communing in a fantastical realm of exquisite ambiance which is a combination of fantasy, mystery, romance and wish fulfillment.

The reader is often just as confused as the main character and Kelsey's visits to The Garden feel a little bit like a mix of The Secret Garden and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. You have to suspend reality and just accept what is happening and trust that the author knows where she is taking you.

The theme of adoption might be of special relevance to some, not knowing who you are and where you are from...and this is part of the theme of finding your true self which is crucial to the creative process.

I loved that each chapter begins with a poignant quote from a famous author. The author is very encouraging of her fellow artists who are struggling with their creativity, trying to live in the real world with its present financial stressors while nurturing their craft, endeavoring to bring their art to life.

Perhaps its ending is a little too neatly wrapped with a bow on top, some might say a little too sweet and "cozy". But it had enough truth throughout its pages to make it a TRUE story, and a GOOD book. I would definitely read more books by this author.

Started out really good but then got so wordy and then the middle didn’t really connect well toward the end. The book is ok but not a favorite. Sorry

I love this story. I am 71, and my favorite book is When We Were Very Young by A A Milne. My Nana and mother read the poems to myself and my six brothers and sisters. We have pasted the stories on. I would put this story on the same shelf level.
I felt like I understood the message. The delivery was enchanting, the story so creative.
I am going to the bookstore instead of Kindle to search for more of your stories. I truly appreciate your talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new favourite author

This book was a pleasant surprise. I had not expected such a deep dive book into the struggles of a new author. The analyses of the main character's struggle to resume writing after many disappointments resonated with me and will do the same for anyone who has ever dreamed of being a published author, but questions their talents. The narrative of the story is unique and the threads of the story lines are multiple. Tracy completes each story line with many surprising endings. It was a wonderful read.

Every once in a while you read a book that speaks to the heart. This is one such book. A message about creativity and being creative, about fear and the overcoming of it. A story of hope, of loss and love. A lesson in the power of beauty. All woven through a tale of characters finding their way in a world of challenges.

Initially found it hard to get into but having read all of Ms Higley's other books decided to persevere and so pleased I did. Caught out by the ending but this book really touched my soul. A beautiful story so cleverly written. Thank You Tracy. Looking forward to more of your books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story to keep you guessing

I became thoroughly engrossed in Kelsey’s story…and her story within the story. Guessing with her who the creative people were in the Garden, anxious for her as the loss of her beloved Book Emporium looms, her Gran’s health fails and finances holding everything together dwindle to dust. And in the end marvelling at all the threads coming so satisfyingly together.
I loved it and highly recommend anything that this author writes!
