Automatons Hardcover – September 29, 2021
Purchase options and add-ons
Along with smarmy Sam, life's impossible tourist, a trucker's death draws Joyce down the last highway into the desert's beating heart. And at the Judgment Day Diner they will be caught up in a maelstrom of adultery, lies and hidden violence.
Intended for adult readers, science fiction/humour novel Automatons is a stripping bare of the ways people stumble blindly down the same old paths, and how we find it so much easier to be humane to our technology rather than each other.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2013I adored the descriptions of the desert. The landscape I found myself in, care of BP Gregorys inventive and alarming prose, was scary and lonely and addictive. I found the characters match her landscape. My favourite was Joyce, a woman in my mind who sought her way through a nightmare that may be real or imagined, strong and rarely apologetic. And who are the Automatons? Those left behind in a an apocolyptic world, or the machines humans once thought to personalise? Read this unusual and beautific debut. You'll want more of the world BP Gregory has lovingly created.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2013I was very interested in the concept, and this story captivated me, I thought the ending a bit abrupt though- I have known BP Gregory for a very long time, and was interested in her stories- she has always had an interesting outlook on life.
Well done, I am looking forward to reading more of her work,
