My Magic Mirror is a children's fantasy adventure story by eight-year-old author Anushka Bhattacharjee. Nine-year-old Ara is not pleased when she and her five-year-old brother Felice have to move to Toronto, Canada, because of their mother's new job. One day, while exploring the mirror in the basement, the siblings are sucked into it and find themselves in the story of the three little pigs. After Ara relates the story to her brother, Felice proposes an audacious plan to save the pigs from the Big Bad Wolf. Ara and Felice start helping the pigs one by one, only to realize the Big Bad Wolf may not be as bad as they previously thought. They uncover an underlying conspiracy that was making pigs disappear in the small town of Pown. Now, can they return back home?

Anushka Bhattacharjee spins an absorbing yarn that will have kids transported to a magical world full of talking animals. My Magic Mirror is a captivating read filled with eye-catching illustrations that make the story all the more immersive. The characters are vibrant and brimming with life. Anushka Bhattacharjee, in the third grade, has rewritten the classic three little pigs but with multiple twists and turns along the way. When a magical mirror transports them to Pown, Ara and Felice try to stop the classic story from its "fate" by interfering and attempting to get the wolf arrested by the police to prevent the normal story timeline from happening. After Ava and Felice break into a hotel to steal money from another pig, the story begins to unravel into a new version in which the victim is the unsuspecting wolf and the pig in the brick house becomes the... antagonist. Filled with conspiracy and hilarious twists.

This book is written in the same grain as Wicked, Maleficent and Cruella. I love how it examines the "bad guy's" point of view. I love how the author engages the reader. It made me feel like I was a partner helping out.

The best part was how the main character used logic to problem solve. That is an amazing feat for any child to have.

I really laughed out loud at some parts. This was a funny, sweet, slick-educational read!

This was a wonderful rewrite of a staple fable. The sister was bossy and true to form. The younger brother was troublesome like younger brothers often are.
The heroes names are Felice, the younger brother, and Ara, the older sister. After being mysteriously transported to a new world, they find themselves in the middle of a life saving mission.
If was fun finding out if they were successful and were able to get back home. This can stimulate other young people to write.

Bravo to the author for crafting this new spin on an age-old story like The Three Little Pigs. The story is uniquely imaginative and her narrative voice truly shines. I was even surprised by the big reveal. The images are also very cute and add to the story. I think any child would absolutely love this story.

That being said, the manuscript still feels very unrefined. Age of the author aside, there are a handful of plotholes and areas where details are either redundant or contradictory. As good as the writing is for the age and inexperience of the author, an editor is still needed for these little tweaks.
