Here is New York Times bestselling author Eric Jerome Dickey's debut novel, a celebration of Black sisterhood hailed by Essence as one of the “50 Most Impactful Black Books Of The Last 50 Years”.

Valerie, Inda, and Chiquita are three women looking for love in Los Angeles.

Valerie became the perfect wife to please her husband, Walter, whose football career has gone nowhere—along with their marriage. Then she meets Daniel. Valerie's divorced sister, Inda, has Raymond, who has a hot body, smooth moves—and another girlfriend on the side. Now Inda's scheming to get even. After telling her last boyfriend to hit the road, Chiquita takes up with Thaddeus, Inda and Valerie's irresistible brother. Has Chiquita finally found a good man?

Sexy and in-your-face,
Sister, Sister depicts a modern world where woman may have to alter their dreams, yet never stop embracing tomorrow.

“Brims with humor, outrageousness, and affection.”—Publishers Weekly

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

It takes guts for a male writer to tackle the trials and tribulations of upwardly mobile African American women. But that's what Dickey does, with mixed results, in his first novel, a high-spirited celebration of black sisterhood. Southern California sisters Valerie and Inda are close. Fair-skinned Valerie is the younger of the two and takes after their white mother in appearance. After six years of lousy marriage to Walter, she knows she's miserable but doesn't know any role other than that of satellite eternally in orbit around a husband. Inda, who inherited their father's dark skin and features, has a stable career, but a divorce from her white husband has made her pessimistic about men of any color, a situation exacerbated by flagrant evidence of her current lover's infidelities. Inda meets Chiquita, a young flight attendant, whom she instinctively likes, and their friendship is cast when they discover they both have been simultaneously deceived by Raymond, who is engaged to a third woman. Chiquita is drawn into the girls' tight-knit family as she falls for their brother, Brown, and learns something from them about courage and love. In recovering from their individual disappointments, Valerie, Inda and Chiquita risk new relationships, strengthened by one another's humor, candor and understanding. The book suffers somewhat from multiple points of view and an unevenness of characterization. Inda and Chiquita, who are given first-person voices, are bold and sassy. Valerie, whose sections are all third-person narrative, is sketchy by comparison. Though flawed, Dickey's novel brims with humor, outrageousness and an understanding of the generosity of affection.

From Library Journal

Dickey tells the story of three adult siblings whose adventures in love cause them to lose their patience but not their sense of humor. His novel shows that there is a difference between knowing the right thing to do and finding the will to do it.

It amazes me how Eric Jerome could write from the perspective of women with such emotion and reality. The book is a mixture of humor, satire, critical thinking, sadness and joy. There are some pretty steamy sex scenes in this book, so if you’re sensitive to that( I skipped over those sections) then be advised. In addition, one of the characters processes her trauma which could potentially trigger the reader if they have been through something similar and haven’t dealt with it. I don’t say this to deter anyone away from reading, but for those whos hearts are still healing from mother wounds and/or a toxic relationship than it may stir up discomfort. However in conclusion, it’s a great read! I highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Engaging storyline, but some of the characters are a bit weak
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 25, 2015
Those who are familiar with Eric Jerome Dickey's work, already know he is a master word-smith. He is also the king of drama, and this book did not disappoint. I however felt that some of the characters were not as fleshed out as they could be. The story moves along at a good pace, and the pages kept on turning. When I compared this book to some of the others of this author that I've read, it wasn't my favourite, but it was good.
