Female. Likes Cheese. Comes with Dog.: Stories About Divorce, Dating, and Saying “I Do” Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 23 ratings

When Lauren Peacock was twenty-three years old, she got her fairy-tale wedding. But she soon discovered that a dream wedding doesn’t guarantee a dream marriage. Divorced at twenty-seven, Lauren did a figurative face-plant onto the floor of the dating scene and had to learn some awkward lessons, like how it’s not socially acceptable to push a crush into the dirt after the age of seven.

A mix of self-deprecating humor and fearless vulnerability, Lauren’s collection of hilarious anecdotes will win over readers prone to pairing rosé with mac and cheese and waxing nostalgic over nineties-era pop culture references. With unapologetic honesty, she reveals even the least-flattering details of her dating life, which are so relatable they’ll make readers either cringe or laugh out loud.

After dusting herself off, Lauren describes just how far she’s willing to go—we’re talking all the way across the Atlantic—to find her Prince Charming.

A funny and easy read. She brings you along for the ride. I laughed out loud and cringed, reminding myself of situations I had hoped to forget. I felt like she was telling me her stories as if she was sitting across from me. With the plentiful amount of humor - it also takes an incredibly brave person to share her dating experiences and starting over, and how to power through. I could have easily read it in one day but I had so much fun reading it I kept delaying the ending (as I do with any book I love). The perfect summer read - pairs well with a glass of rosé or sparkling water and a sunny day.

If you want a fun, witty, hilarious read, this is it. This book made me laugh out loud several times and I found it so relatable, I didn't want to put it down. I've given it to several friends as a gift, they loved it too. Highly recommend it!

Best book I’ve read in a long time! Funny witty easy to read and so relatable!! Love all the quotes from Friends and how the writer speaks from the heart. Grab your girlfriends and a pitcher of margs and enjoy this book while sitting out by the pool! Perfect for the much needed mental escape right now!

An enjoyable quick read, I managed to finish it in one day! Lauren's sense of humor and storytelling is like listening to your friend over a few beers. Laughs will be had and funny (but relatable) stories will be shared. I recommend especially if you know how tumultuous the modern dating/divorce scene can be.

I really enjoyed this candid and sometimes funny story. A good book for someone to read who isn't sure about his or her own skin.

I absolutely loved this book! I didn't want it to end, obviously. Her story was truly inspiring, especially for me at this time in my life, when I am ready to settle down and find my husband. Throughout her book, she recollects on numerous events in her life that could have led her to give up, but she didn't. It gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward in my life and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. It is a good, easy read with tons of relatable stories and comedy throughout. I love how she can laugh at herself, and this gives me hope that someday I will be able to look back and laugh at myself as well. I recommend 100%!!

This book was such a delight! I related on so many levels with Lauren. I ‘laughed out loud’ (literally) so many times. I loved all the throwbacks to things growing up. I had this book for a few years before finally getting around to reading it. And while I’m disappointed in myself for not being able to read and review the ARC when I got it, I’m also glad I waited because I read it when I needed it the most. I feel like if I knew Lauren growing up, we’d totally have been best friends!
