Very good book !
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2006this is a must-read. In this riveting account of the ups and downs of playing professional V. Poker, Bob Dancer reveals it all - from his low roller beginnings to the high roller world, and the wild ride getting there. Packed with fascinating info about casinos, promotions & comps, bankrolls, winning & losing, Dancer shares his secrets with the reader.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2017I wanted to read this book because I listen to his Gambling with an Edge podcast each week. I enjoyed reading the story and his style of writing. Considering that Shirley's 400K win was a large part of the amount used in the title of the book though, I have a small feeling of disappointment. It's not so much how HE did it as mash as how THEY did it.
Great insight into how a professional gambler must think!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2010If you really want to learn the best way to play video poker or want to hone your skills, this is a good book. It tells the story of Bob Dancer (a video poker expert) who set out to win a million dollars playing video poker; it also lets you in on how to properly play video poker, there's quite a bit of learning to do if you want to play the game perfectly.
Both Bob Dancer and Jean Scott are both considered to be expert of Video Poker and they are two completely different people, I'd recommend looking up both of them. Bob is more brash, and Jean is more easy going and happy, however this is just my opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019Was assuming it would teach me something about playing video poker but ended up being a memoir. An entertaining moment or two but basically a waste of my time and money
- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2024The item was just as I expected
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2012You can set it however you want want I like it telling me what the highest probability of winning is so I can see that against what I would normally play with the advantage of doing all the math. As time goes on, I learn how to play those odds and have more success! Just what I was looking for in a Video Poker teacher.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read!
The book for video poker enthusiasts. This is not an instruction book but a story of one of the most successful video players, Bob Dancer. During a six year period he turned his original stake of $6,000 to over $1,000,000 and this is the story of how it was done.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable tale - well told
I have never played video poker, but, this book has certainly opened my eyes.
It's probably a good few yrs too late, as the house edge, is no longer eroded by sumptuous additional playing benefits, but, it's always good to have a history, of how someone took advantage of playing conditions.
The book seems to have taken place in 2003 .. A refresh, would be nice, as Bob has a radio show, and still writes a lot.
