Bumbling characters make for entertaining read!

I'm a little confused. I read the prequel "Scooped" and Lacey had just discovered her family shortly after her mother had died. Now in the first book of the series we find Lacry working for her grandfather who is head of the Family. Ok that works. But before long there is discussion about pictures on the wall of the restaurant with Lacey as a small girl with her grandparents that she had supposedly never met or even known about. I was disappointed that the stories weren't more cohesive
However the bumbling antics of Lacey, her friend Meg, and cousin Clay made for highly entertaining reading. Ms LaManna's characterizations of the supporting characters as well as the main ones made everyone seem like real people. I loved the way Lacey just takes off to do Carlos' job and never bothers to even get her facts straight. I loved the fact she thought she was looking for drugs and what the "stuff" turned out to be. Even with the inconsistencies, you should read scooped before reading this book. I am looking forward to the further adventures of Lacey and crew in the next books of the series.

This was a great book with a lot going on. Lacey has humor on her side and continues to fight against what seems like it may be the world. She continues to fight the family system. It also leaves you wanting more at the end of the book wanting to read the next one.

Stephanie Plum...I don't think so. Stephanie Plum knockoff...perhaps. I forced myself to finish reading this book hoping it would be all that was promised. It had potential, but between the disconnects, such as dumpster dives to bed without a shower and childhood events involving people that weren't met until adulthood, to her lack of judgement in men (so much that she appears a simpleton - certainly not someone who could solve a problem, let alone be part of the mob) made the story blah. The humor promised turned out to be a bunch of idiotic dialog and decisions. Perhaps if it was edited better her antidotes would have been tolerable.

Having said that, had the comparison of Stephanie Plum/Evanovich not been made, I possibly would have enjoyed it more. You know, without all the expectations. I did enjoy her other book : )

The was an amazing book. The characters are great and the plot was really unique. Lacey seems to be the out of luck, always getting in trouble, ill prepared, and somewhat klutzy woman. She is also tying, yet failing at times, to get her life together. This, her diet (or lack their of), her crazy social life, and her family is where a lot of the humor is derived. Lacey is trying to become a working member of her mob family. All while helped out by both her technical genius cousin, Clay, and her ex-cop best friend, Meg. They eat, they laugh, they stake out, they work together to help Lacey complete her first assignment from the family. She has three guys wanting to date her but, she's not exactly strong with people. She also doesn't know which she can trust when her grandfather,the mob leader yet family man, and grandmother, the well-meaning family woman who tries to feed Lacey her awful home cooking, try to find a husband for her, themselves. This book is a hilarious, action-filled, great read. I recommend it to anyone looking for an incredible book.

I almost did not continue after the first chapter because it seemed like such an imitation of Evanovich. But I did and was glad, as the characters solidified some on their own, especially the lead character, her grandparents and cousin. The best friend still has me puzzled and seems a little unlikable to me. I found the ending too abrupt, possibly as the author was just trying to lead into the next in the series. The premise of working for organized crime instead of the good guys was at first off-putting but got more tolerable. Too much ogling and description of every male body that appears for me (is she that indiscriminate that every whiff of testosterone affects her female organs?). But I smiled while reading and felt I would enjoy the next installment by the time I got to the end. To the author: A worthwhile effort but please stop trying to be someone else--you do just fine on your own.

I do not understand any review under 4 stars. This is not a Jan Evanovich book and who the dickens cares? NOT ME.
It is written with the good humor, and is as much or maybe more fun than Stephanie Plum any day. This gal is really not on the "right" side of the law, but not really on the "wrong" side either (or not yet, anyway). Being the granddaughter of the head of a mob, she is doing whatever she can do to make a living, without stripping (that didn't work out) and without breaking any laws (although that is yet to be seen in future books...no idea). I love the characters, I love how clean it is written, and I can hardly wait to see if the hunk she is so enamored with will ever really be her guy. She has enough close calls to make me hold my breath, and is hooked on sugar. Who wouldn't love it? I have the next book already and have started it right away. I just say "Thanks Gina, for making a few hours of my life so happy reading your books."

I really enjoyed the book. I’m planning on reading more, but undecided. The reason I’m rating it a 2 is because the length of the book is a LIE! It says the print is 310 but it’s actually 292. So for $11.99 someone should be countable for this. Also the prices of these books go up and down according to how many pages are in the book I have seen. The more pages the more expensive they are. Then some are less pages and higher priced which makes no sense at all. I don’t know if this is the same with all of this authors books as this is the first book I have read by her. I may check a different book and see what that’s like, I don’t like being lied to and paying this kind of money for a paperback book which that’s what I prefer, and others like the kindle. I wonder if anyone has this problem with the kindle edition. Are the pages the same? Then the box set. It’s a great deal, but ask yourself this are we getting cheated of any pages?

This series has been likened to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels, which I love, so I gave it a try and I wasn't disappointed. It's a fun easy read with interesting characters and a dreamy hunk to keep most girls happy. My only criticism in this novel is some of the detail ( no one is going straight to bed after hiding out in a dumpster without having a shower first! ). This is the first book in this series and the following books keep getting better.

An fun and humorous story, which I was attracted to as I am a Janet Evanovich fan, and has enjoyed Gina Lamanna's other Magic & Mixology series. It was a enjoyable story, which picked up speed as it went along and once the scene was set and the characters introduced.

The lead protagonist is Lacey - a feisty lady who has found her long lost Family (aka the mob) and starts working for her Grandfather. And in her own unique way she gets the job done, but usually with copious amounts of crazy and mayhem!!

I will definitely continue with further adventures of Lacey as I think they will get better and better as the characters develop.
