4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 633 ratings

Aspiring artists can now re-create the remarkable characters of Disney•Pixar films using Learn to Draw Your Favorite Disney•Pixar Characters as their guide. Following simple instructions, artists-in-training can learn to draw the entertaining personalities from Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Up, Inside Out, Coco, and more.

In this book, after an introduction to art
tools and materials, a series of drawing exercises invites artists to warm up and learn a few basic drawing techniques. Then the real fun begins! The easy-to-follow instructions will guide you through the drawing process; each step builds upon the last until the character is complete! You just need to grab a pencil, a piece of paper, and your copy of Learn to Draw Your Favorite Disney•Pixar Characters, and flip to the character you want to draw. You’ll draw the basic shapes shown in step one, and move on to step two, step three, and keep going! The new lines in each step are shown in blue, so you’ll know exactly what to draw. After adding all the details in each step, darken the lines you want to keep and erase the rest. Finally, add color to your drawing with felt-tip markers, colored pencils, watercolors, or acrylic paints.

Along the way,
professional Disney artists share helpful tips and tricks for bringing the characters to life. With a range of fun and exciting characters in a variety of poses, young fans will enjoy learning to draw Woody, Buzz, Sulley and Mike, Nemo, Dory, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Lightning McQueen, Mater, Joy and Sadness, and many more, just like the pros do!

WALL•E

How To Use This Book

Artists draw characters in several steps. They start with basic shapes and add more details with each step. In this book, the blue lines show each new step. The black lines show what you’ve already drawn.

Step 1 First draw the basic shapes.

WALL•E is a Waste Allocation Load Lifter—Earth class. Although considered a bit ancient for the twenty-ninth century, WALL•E is programmed with a strong directive: to collect and compact trash to clean up the overly polluted Earth. His boxy middle contains his compacting unit; his mechanical arms were designed to gather trash; and his triangular-shaped treads cover the wheels that help him maneuver over the rugged, trashcovered terrain.

WALL•E

Step 2 Each new step is shown in blue.

WALL•E

Step 3 Follow the blue lines to add the details.

WALL•E

Step 4 Now darken the lines you want to keep and erase the rest.

WALL•E

Step 5 Add color!

Violet Parr

Draw Violet Parr

Violet Parr is, in many ways, a typical shy, insecure teenage girl. She, like her parents, has special powers, and it seems only right that hers allow her to turn invisible and protect herself with an impenetrable forcefield. For what would be better for an awkward young woman than to be invisible at a moment’s notice? This is especially true for Violet—someone who desperately wants to be normal, but truly isn’t.

Great book! A few missing steps but does the job!
Really GREAT book, for anyone looking for easy step by step training on how to draw characters. The style of the directions reminds me of IKEA or LEGO, where each step identifies exactly what you need to draw by using a different color. It is super clear and before I gifted it to my nephew, I had some fun with it.The only disappointment I had is in terms of the coloring or painting the final character. For example, they show u how to draw the outline, but they don’t give you any advice on how to color in order to get the correct texture. Please see my example of the bear from Toy Story. Book does not really explain how to make the fur effect.

I am pretty sure I have the first version of this book as well. I love the Walter Foster Learn To Draw books and try to buy everyone I see. This is a great one to try out as your first foray into this type of book. It has a lot of Disney/Pixar characters. When my boys were little, I would draw them in a little book and keep them in my purse. Inevitably, they wanted me to draw something on their menus at restaurants so I could pull my little book out and draw something. Unfortunately, they grew up much quicker than I was able to finish my book! I highly recommend any of the books in this series. I would say they are good for upper elementary and above.

Book goes into detail for drawing tutorials. Explanations are kept short and to the point. Example: forearms are longer then biceps; Woody's joints are like pinched balloons. Daughter has spend many hours producing high quality drawings.

My niece is thrilled with this book. She puts her Boogie board over a drawing & traces. I like that the samples showing the stages of a drawing are all the same size, which helps her tracing. It is such a hit, I ordered another one for when she's visiting my house!

Great gift for my preteen who loves to draw and happens to also love Disney. Nice that the teaching can carry over to Nemo just to a “fish” or main characters into “people” If you have time for shipping, I think the spiral binding might be worth it.

Bought this book because covid cancelled our kids summer program and they cannot get into the boys and girls club now. Needed ways to keep them active. They got this and a small sketchbook (their own) and they do daily drawing and writing challenges. The kids live drawing the characters they are familiar with!!!!
