“Authoritative and authentic, We’re Speaking is equal parts biography and self-help guide, a compilation of the valuable lessons we can learn from Kamala Harris’s history-making rise. But what makes it sing are Palepu’s own insights gleaned from her impressive and unique trajectory, shared candidly with humor and heart. This is the book you want as you find your voice.”―Elizabeth Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style

"
We're Speaking contextualizes Kamala Harris' life as a road map for women's careers, ambitions and identity. It is a must read for everyone who aims to go beyond what society tells them is possible. "Through the lens of Kamala Harris‘s extraordinary rise to Vice President of the United States in a country where power is still held by a traditional white patriarchy,  author and entrepreneur Hitha Palepu, provides readers with an extraordinary roadmap filled with brilliant insight on not only how to articulate their professional goals but showcases all the tools necessary to both achieve them as well as find their individual power and voice. An absolute and inspiring read for anyone from a college graduate to a company founder"―

The PERFECT Kamala Harris Primer

The PERFECT Kamala Harris Primer
I had heard about this book in 2021, but did not have the opportunity to purchase it. Ok, real talk, Kamala Harris was already the VP by then, and I did not want to read another book about her. Fast forward to 2024, and she is the presidential nominee and hopefully, will be the FWP (First Woman President). I'd forgotten everything I had read about her, so I decided to give this (Audio)book a try. I wanted to read about who VP Harris was - before I read anything else or new about her. This book is PERFECT for my agenda. This book is a primer on who Kamala is - her background, her upbringing, her resiliency, her achievements, what she loves, and most importantly WHO she is. Who she is now is not much different from who she was then - an empathetic individual with the highest morals, who has always known what her North Star is (Spoiler Alert: Her North Star is "For the People"). Hitha Palepu, the author, has written such a sincere, earnest and compelling detailing of her life, in parallel with how we can strategically use the many lessons from the Harris stories into our own lives. Hitha is also the narrator of this book and has such a soothing, calming balm of a voice, which to an audiobook listener like me who loses herself in the narrator's voice as much as the content of the book, is double perfection. Before you read any hit pieces or negative campaigning about VP Harris, or even before you read any genuine reporting about her, please read this book (the audiobook is just ~ 4.5 hours long). 11/10 would recommend.

This is an absolute must read to not only get to know VP Kamala Harris but to find inspiration in what we can all do with our voices and especially when the odds are stacked against us. I greatly appreciated learning the facts behind VP Harris' upbringing and her career and the knowledge Hitha gave me with this book has not only encouraged conversations but offered the truth to be provided in those conversations. It is so great to read about how one woman found another to be of inspiration and then wrote a book about it so that we too could live and breathe that positivity.

We can learn so much from mentorship from afar. Hitha passes on lessons that Kamala Harris inspired in her, but also what all women should know, who see themselves in Kamala's story. This is inspirational and instructive — a must-read for the woman who dreams big and wants to bring their family along for the journey!

Hitha always keeps it brilliant and real— couldn't WAIT to read this book inspired by the life lessons of Kamala Harris: tomorrow I'll be eating "NO" for breakfast. This book isn't just about VP Harris, it's about all of us coming together to find ways to make the world a better place.

I was really excited to read this book. I really thought it would present a modern, evolved and progressive view with a balanced criticism and appreciation of VP Harris. I was disappointed to say the least. There were a lot of toxic and/or outdated concepts, including “leaning in,” “being the first one in and last one out for the office,” family support. Specifically, it mentioned dressing well at work, putting a smile on your face…it was one step away from saying that you should not have tattoos and colored hair in a corporate environment. It reminded me of the bad parts of Sheryl Sandberg’s book in some ways. It very cursorily mentioned privilege but didn’t acknowledge that the vast majority of Black women do not have these privileges and overworking is a burden of the american capitalist society. The tips are very much geared towards women that have it all already. That have an education, a position in society etc. and are either already “successful” by corporate America’s definition of success or on the brink of it. It is not for self made women that are struggling on their own. It’ll leave you feeling like your potential lack of routine, lack of an expensive or put together closet, or lack of a network of millionaires or multi-hyphenates by age 40 is a personal failure. I’d read it with caution.
