Do the work, work your plan, and love your career!
Fran writes, "A big part of listening is asking the right questions." I think this captures the crux of this book in helping you ask the right questions of yourself and what you want from your life and your career, and converting those answers into action. Make time to listen to yourself.Fran encourages the reader to carve out time to carefully examine and reflect on accomplishments, setbacks and relationships to purposefully plan the path to the future. The quote "you cannot be what you cannot see" is often used in the context of role models, but visualizing yourself in the role you want also applies. The book is very well organized and full of relevant examples to help the reader bolster her confidence, learn from mishaps, and build a personal advisory board. The mandalas and meditation passages reinforce the importance of slowing down to get to the core work required to see your natural talents shine through and guide you. Do the work, work your plan, and love your career.

Reading Embrace the Work, Love Your Career felt like having a personalized leadership coach at my fingertips. Fran Hauser does an excellent job of synthesizing research on personal development, executive leadership, and career training into one easy and fun-to-use workbook. From topics ranging from creating time and space to knowing your value to build your dream team, there is helpful advice in here for everyone. This book is for anyone who is feeling stuck in their career journey and/or wants guidance on how to progress in their career path. I can’t recommend this book enough!

As someone who tends to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks at work, this workbook serves as a reminder to think about the big picture aspects of my career. Fran challenges readers to ask themselves “what do you want to be known for?” While this is certainly a big question, it serves as an overarching theme of the book. In identifying your RBGs (really big goals) Fran provides a highly useful framework for how to work smarter not harder.

In the section of the workbook focused on creating time and space, Fran advocates for removing unnecessary tasks from your plate instead of piling more things on and becoming practiced in saying “no.” She provides helpful tips on how to say “no” with kindness and how to decline with confidence. One of the things she encourages readers to say “no” to is perfection. Her tagline “good enough is better than perfect” really resonated with me.

My favorite section of the workbook is the section on knowing your value. Fran talks about knowing your value and how self-assurance is cumulative or is based on positive and negative experiences. She reframes failure as “success in training” and encourages readers to think about negative experiences as opportunities for growth. Before reading this book, I thought of self-assurance as something that someone innately has. However, Fran explains that it’s a skill you can develop over time. She encourages “evidence-based confidence” or keeping a list of your successes to look back on whenever self-doubt creeps in and a smile file of positive feedback you receive to aid in the cultivation of self-assurance.

Embrace The Work Love Your Career A Guided Workbook For Realizing Your Career Goals With Clarity, Intention and Confidence by Fran Hauser is a hope boosting guide to look into for making the best of one's career life andor current professional opportunities andor professional options. What the author is symbolizing with branding and why it is of benefit to focus on an area to become a go to person for what is referenced, the benefits of a reader having a dream team (a group of multiple people to turn to for support in relation to career and other life goals i.e. a mentor or coach, a confidant etc.), the author communicates what is their symbolism message in relation to mindfulness with career journey and more.

Fran has written another wonderful book which will have a permanent place on my bookshelf, right next to The Myth of the Nice Girl! Embrace the Work, Love Your Career is a fun and enlightening read and Fran's insights and gentle guidance are as relevant to me now in the midst of a career reset as they would have been during my 20+ years in the finance industry. The workbook format and Fran's ability to clearly identify and talk through common stressors made this book hard to put down. I found it easy to mindfully work through the chapters, reconsidering many aspects of work and life which are so important to feeling fulfilled but are frequently accepted "as is" in the everyday treadmill of getting on with it all. Whether you have an established career, are just starting out, or changing direction and looking to build a new path, this book will help you focus on what really makes you happy and create a plan to act accordingly and with grace.

Chock-full of inspiration and tactical advice, and grounded in decades of authentic experience – this book gives us women who are in the midst of a career transition hope and an action plan (especially the “Love Your Career Toolkit” towards the end) for how we can actively create the career of our dreams!

I particularly enjoyed the unique embellishments that supported the impactful messages of each chapter…positive affirmations to guide and reinforce this journey, meditations to provoke deep thought (you can even scan a QR code to listen, should you prefer!), prompts that offered simplified frameworks for working through the various exercises when this part can often feel so daunting, ample space to journal, tip sheets, opportunities for pause and reflection, and the very beautiful illustrations all throughout the book!

One of Fran’s thoughts that really resonated with me: “When you make choices that are in alignment with your goals and values, you feel the difference”. This book left me energized and inspired. My tendency for feeling overwhelmed was replaced with the sense that I am firmly in the driver’s seat of creating a career that I will love!

I just pre-ordered a few more copies to send to my closest friends. So, so incredibly well-done :)

Every woman needs to read this book. Its an incredible step by step guide to staying focused on what you want and all the little and not so little steps you need to take to get there. This is a book I wish I had in my early 20s as I was deciding on my first path. Though it is coming in very handy in my 40s as I look towards a new career path for myself. With small, tangible thought exercises, Fran helps clear out the noise that get's in the way of staying true to our purpose and passion. If you feel like you are in a rut, or just need a little boost in your productivity and focus, I highly recommend you pick this book up. I would even dare say that you and friends each get one and go away for a weekend and work through it together. The possibilities of what will come out of the experience seem endless and oh so satisfying.
