WINNER: International Book Awards 2023 - Business: Technology

In the fast moving world of the fourth industrial revolution not everyone needs to be a data scientist but everyone should be data literate, with the ability to read, analyze and communicate with data.

It is not enough for a business to have the best data if those using it don't understand the right questions to ask or how to use the information generated to make decisions.
Be Data Literate is the essential guide to developing the curiosity, creativity and critical thinking necessary to make anyone data literate, without retraining as a data scientist or statistician.

With learnings to show development and real-world examples from industries implementing data literacy skills, this book explains how to confidently read and speak the 'language of data' in the modern business environment and everyday life.
Be Data Literate is a practical guide to understanding the four levels of analytics, how to analyze data and the key steps to making smarter, data-informed decisions. Written by a founding pioneer and worldwide leading expert on data literacy, this book empowers professionals with the skills they need to succeed in the digital world.

I’m someone with interest but very little prior background knowledge of data and analytics- and this book could not have been better for me.

It was a fantastic and well written (easy to understand) guide and great way to learn the fundamentals, build a data literacy foundation and also get me motivated about learning more. I loved the analogies and real world examples.

This book is literally a must have for both data professionals and business leaders. There is a very real gap between knowing that you have data and knowing what to do with it. This book walks you through the foundational principals of beginning to bridge that gap. Jordan Morrow doesn't present a in-depth technical analysis of data here. Rather, he offers readers a chance to reflect on the building blocs for a successful approach to engaging stakeholders at every level of the process. Even if you've been in the field of data for years, this book offers insight into spaces where you may be able to improve outcomes with simple mindset adjustments. Approach matters, and this book holds key insights into firming up a strategic approach that will deliver results. Highly recommend picking this one up today!

Data literacy ….its what we all do on a daily basis. But yet somehow this person is putting an “expensive” name on a concept that is basically an individuals ability to communicate and comprehend what they are reading or analyzing.

This book highlights why everyone needs to be data literate in today's world, and also offers useful frameworks for thinking about the concepts related to data literacy (e.g. descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive levels). It is relatable to those who work in office environments and does its best to bring the reader along on the journey, rather than get overly complex. It's written in a conversational style that makes it appropriate for beginner or intermediate users of data. If you want more depth, you'll have to do more research on some of the concepts and case studies. The encouraging tone makes for a quick and satisfying read. Aside from some copyediting issues that could be addressed, it's a good contribution to the growing world of data literacy. I've recommended it to several people already and will continue to do so over the coming years.

The product was classified as "New," but upon arrival, the book was damaged from the spinal cord all the way to the inside, with bent pages and even some that have footprints on them. The back of the text was also bent straight down the middle. I would not recommend anyone to purchase it unless direly needed for something.

As a learning professional, this book is clearly designed to truly help readers (learners) understand the basics of data literacy, why it is such a critical skill to have, and how to continue to grow your skillset. Notably, it does this without making the assumption you are a data scientist or statistician. It is written for everyone. Upskilling is a priority for every company today, and the ability to read, analyze, and communicate with data is vital to success in virtually every position, in every industry, today. This book should be the basis for every company's effort to introduce data literacy, but also is incredibly valuable for any individual wanting to become more data literate on their own. I personally have already recommended this book to more than a dozen people, and would recommend it to anyone - beginner or advanced - reading this review.
