“Being fully present to fear, to gratitude, to all that is—this is the practice of mutual belonging. As living members of the living body of Earth, we are grounded in that kind of belonging. Even when faced with cataclysmic changes, nothing can ever separate us from Earth. We are already home.”— Joanna Macy

Review
“Joanna Macy is one of the planet's treasures, not least for the remarkable cadre of people who have learned from and been inspired by her rooted and unstinting life. This fine book combines her insights and those who have learned from her, and it will be a joy to anyone who approaches it with an open heart.”—Bill McKibben, author of Falter: Has the Human Game Begun to Play Itself Out?
“We can’t save our world, we can only love our larger body, this living earth, and take the next healing step. To guide us, we have Joanna Macy, who embodies this active loving in her brilliant teachings, ‘The Work That Reconnects,’ and through her decades of serving our planet. This new book captures the great depth and breadth of Joanna’s wisdom through her own stories, as well as through the richly shared stories of her colleagues—activists, thinkers, and teachers. Throughout, Joanna’s understandings, group practices, and passionate heart offer us an urgently needed pathway of hope for this precious world.”—Tara Brach, author of Radical Acceptance and Radical Compassion
“I am wildly in love with A Wild Love for the World. I can truly say that the stories in this book, and its life-transforming ideas and their practical applications, have changed me. The personal stories and focus on positive collaborative engagement offer a breath of energizing fresh air as we move forward. Joanna Macy’s life, celebrated here in an engaging, inspiring, and practical compendium of approaches catalyzed by her ‘Work That Reconnects,’ offers each of us a light to cultivate resilience and illuminate the path ahead. Thank you to Stephanie Kaza and all the contributors, and to Joanna, for the love and brilliance that shine so brightly in this life’s work of heart.”—Daniel Siegel, author of Aware and Mind
“How do we live in solidarity on this warming planet? This book captures a lifetime of grappling with this most important of questions—and invites readers into a thriving community of people who, like me, have been transformed by Joanna Macy’s thought and practice.”—Naomi Klein, author of On Fire: The Burning Case For a Green New Deal
“If the ecological crisis is the greatest challenge that humanity is facing today, then Joanna Macy is the most important teacher of our time. For those who don’t yet know her work, this anthology is an excellent place to start. For those of us who have already benefited from it, it provides an overview of an extraordinary woman and her remarkable career.”—David Loy, author of Ecodharma: Buddhist Teachings for the Ecological Crisis
“Serendipitous that this volume by and about one of our most far-seeing, exuberant, and empathic radiators of necessary wisdom is emerging in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. The book will be a talisman for many, a seed bundle, a way through the calamity.”—David Abram, author of The Spell of the Sensuous

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020This is a must read for anyone who wants to change the current paradigm of how we live together and participate in life with the rest of the Earth's community.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2020How fleeting is anyone's experience relative to the broad lifespan of this planet! And yet we each partake of that whole. In truth, there are some folks who give themselves so deeply to this world, who open their soul so fully to each chance encounter – who so thoroughly resolve not to shrink from any of the uncanny textures or flavors or feels that this life offers – that from all these many encounters their heart distills a mysterious liquor, an invisible elixir that streams out through their eyes to refresh all that they look upon, waking a secret and long-slumbering sentience in things, quickening a pulse deep within the ground wherever they wander.
Such a magical creature is Joanna Macy. When reading through this remarkable compendium, I found myself wondering how it’s possible that a single human life can have touched and transformed so many others, in so many different places! But I guess it’s not really a mystery. By offering herself so unconditionally to each locale and situation wherein she found herself, Joanna's life has radiated out to touch and enliven every cell within our larger, spherical Body. By giving herself with such abandon to the very presence of the present moment, her tears and her joy – like those of any genuine Bodhisattva – reverberate backward in time and forward in time to nourish every moment within the broad Life of the breathing Earth.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2020Waste of time. I really hope to get to know Johanna Macy’s work. This book, as much as I could stomach, is a collection of letters heaping praise on Macy and recounting her life adventures. Though the book lists Macy as Author, she writes only a few pages in each praise heaping, self-congratulating chapter. Additionally I found the recounts of her travels and life a frustrating picture of 20th century privilege. Privilege that contributes to the climate crisis which will deny future generations any chance at life such as Macy enjoys and was so praised for. Disappointing as I hoped Macy could offer we hopeless generations with some help in coping with the loss of the world we’ve known. Sadly this book seems to demonstrate a level of tone deafness to our current reality that causes me to reconsider exploring Macy’s work.
