I found MR James in the Folk Horror Anthology (also excellent) and wanted to read more of his stuff. This is an excellent collection.

Collection of eight suspenseful ghost stories from a master that predates HP Lovecraft. Creepy fun with a dry British sense of wit that will have you wanting to pull up the covers and read a single tale just before you drop off to sleep so as to give you chills all week long. Very good book!

If you like good old fashioned ghost stories, filled with atmosphere and mystery, you’ve found the right book Don’t rush through, but spend time, linger, and absorb it, preferably on dark, rainy evenings when you are all alone... or thought you were.

I was hoping for some illustrations. But the text was ok. The print was easy to read. I love the stories so I got those. But I will purchase one with more quality next time. The stories deserve a classy presentation. But for the money, it was OK.

Lovely ghost stories by an original mind from the turn of the last century. I was surprised at how original and different they were ... not only from each other but from the usual ghost-horror plots we get from the entertainment industry these days.

I have also read his Father Brown mysteries which were pedestrian in comparison to these. If you like Le Fanu, I think you will like Chesterton.

I found each of these stories interesting. They are not like our. More recent stories. Several of them have different endings than I. Guessed.

A nice collection of stories. Some of them require quite a bit of thought while others are enjoyable with one, quick read. Well worth taking the time to read.

One of the most classic and greatest collections of ghost stories in history. This book is over 100 years old, and the stories are still engaging, spooky, remarkable. This book is part of a series released by HORROR WRITERS ASSOCIATION, celebrating old classics. Great presentation by the editors and publishers in this edition, (called Haunted Library Horror Classics) with annotations, biographies, reading list, discussion questions, and an intro written by RAMBO-author David Morrell. 5 out of 5 stars.

The writing of the electronic version of this book has been poorly done. The wrong words have been used and the grammar is terrible. There's even reference to the website in one part which is strange for a book written before electricity. I returned the book as I was so disappointed!
