Dragon Speaker (Shadow War Saga) Paperback – January 12, 2021

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 266 ratings

An underdog hero.

A quest to save a dragon.

An unforgettable journey takes flight.

Born into a land of magic wielders without any powers of her own, Keriya Nameless isn't exactly hero material. Despite this disability, the goddess Shivnath tasks her with saving the last living dragon. Desperate to prove her worth to a world that has told her she's worthless, Keriya accepts the mission.

But darkness is stirring in the Empire of Allentria. An ancient and powerful warlord has broken free of his prison with one goal: to kill the dragon. Keriya has bitten off more than she can chew, and she must stay a step ahead of his forces if she wants to survive.

On a journey that tests her courage at every turn, Keriya has to decide what she believes in and who she wants to be. She'd better decide fast, because she discovers that she's at the center of an age-old war...

A war that will decide the fate of everything.

"As happens with any excellent story, you forget that you are not a part of it. The conflict, the hope, the quest, the secrets-they all become real. Needless to say, I fell into the I-can't-put-this-down daze."

Dragon Speaker is a Must read for epic of Heroine & her Dragon companion.

Dragon Speaker is a Must read for epic of Heroine & her Dragon companion.
What I like about this book is that it gets right into the story. We meet our Heroine & the main villain. One trying to save their world & one trying to destroy it. The collection of the company she rides with. I also have to mention the art work included. It has glossary & pronunciations list in the back. This is a five books series with the 5th book due in 2022. I am waiting patiently for the last so that I can binge read the whole series. Bravo Elana A. Mugdan.

In a world where magic is common, a girl with no magic is tasked by a deity to save all existence from an unstoppable evil. This fantasy setting is well flushed out and the main character is portrayed in a surprisingly deep emotional and psychological depiction of a teen girl who eventually determines to follow through with her convictions.

The bright ending could serve as the conclusion of a stand-alone story, but you can feel that more is to come, even if it hadn't already been written. As it is, this is worth reading and getting into, whatever level you prefer your fantasy. Thank Shivnath there are several more books in this series! I want to get to the next one right away!

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher, Shivnath Productions, for providing me with a free copy.

I really didn’t know what to expect whenever I went into this one. This is another one of those books where I’ve heard nothing about it or the author. I was looking for a good high fantasy book and that’s what I found here. Overall, I was just very surprised about how much I ended up liking this one. High fantasy is one of those genres that could go either way for me and I just love it whenever I find one that I actually enjoy.

Like with most high fantasy books, we have a full cast of characters. While there’s not as many as A Song of Ice and Fire, there’s still plenty to keep straight. Now, I really didn’t have a hard time, which is actually a very good thing. This means that Elana has them so well developed and written that it’s very easy to remember not only who is who, but their importance to the overall story. I feel like this is very important. Often times in fantasy, there are these characters just randomly placed throughout the book that really don’t add anything to the overall story. I didn’t get that feeling here.

Keriya is our main character. She is born without magic, but discovers that she has this gift to talk to dragons. Don’t get me wrong. I think that this is actually a very cool talent to have. However, I really felt like Keriya didn’t have that touch that I’ve come to expect from characters. There was just something missing from her overall character that kind of made her a little unlikable. I don’t know if this was Elana’s goal or not, but there was just something about her that kind of made it difficult for me to connect with her.

Anyway, the world was a typical high fantasy world. This is something that I really love. I like how we have this medieval world with elements of magic. I know a lot of people don’t, but I do. There’s just some kind of good vibe that I get when I’m taken to these made up lands.

The dragons were a great touch. The only thing I have to say about that is that I wish there were more of them. This book is called The Dragon Speaker. I just wish that we had seen a little bit more dragon and maybe a little less human. I don’t know…

Anyway, this is a great start to what I hope will be a very promising fantasy series. I am looking forward to more from both this series and this author.

This is one of those books where I had to ask myself, "How did a Big 5 publisher not snap this up?" This book is truly a hidden gem. The writing style was smooth and natural and had a beautiful flow. It was well edited, with very few errors (a pet peeve of mine with many indie books).

The world was vivid, and the characters were fleshed out extremely well. Even the more minor, supporting characters had unique voices and personalities, rather than feeling like they were simply there as a framework for Keriya. I adored Thorion, and the child-like qualities he had while still remaining very much a dragon.

Honestly, I usually approach indie and self-published books with low expectations. But this book completely blew me away. The rest of this author's books will definitely be on my Christmas list.

Most of it was pretty good although the MC has a transition in selfimage toward the end that on some points seemed a bit sudden and not to fully make sense. Biggest annoyance for me is hugely hooky ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a tad different to the run of fantasy books

That said, it kept my attention and I enjoyed the cut and thrust of the characters and the storyline especially as the female characters had an equal role. Not so much in this book but as time went on I felt the author needed to cut to the chase but maybe thats her style...I read all three and I will read the last when that comes out so it has to be good

Although the heroine gets into all sorts of pickles she seems to win through in the end. Thgen it is a science fantasy book. Enjoyable if a little beyond credible at times.
