This gorgeously illustrated picture book tells the story of three girls and how their friendship blossoms. Molly, Savera, and Hannah are nervous about starting school. Each girl is given a special necklace representative of their different faiths to help bring peace and comfort. When they meet on the first day, they bond over their necklaces, and the first seeds of friendship are planted. Throughout the course of the school year, they work together on a planting project, and their friendship grows. The girls realize that, while they may come from different religious backgrounds, they have many things in common. Young readers who have ever been nervous about starting something new will relate to Molly, Savera, and Hannah. They will also enjoy searching for the different symbols of faith located in each girl's home. This is a must have for any classroom, library, or personal collection.

Planting Friendship is a beautiful story sharing such important values with children. The three main characters are all apprehensive about beginning school. Each girl's family practices a different faith tradition. As the school year unfolds, the three authors, also of different faith traditions, focus on the similarities of the girls, and through a school planting project, the friendships blossom as the planting project blossoms. Such a creative way for children to learn about other faith traditions. The illustration color palette is absolutely stunning, lush, green, and carries the reader through the beautiful story arc.

I’m stunned at PLANTING FRIENDSHIP—one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever seen. Its sweet message of love and acceptance—no matter your different beliefs—will resonate in today’s world, more than ever.
Callie Metler, Shirin Rahman, and Melissa Stoller are authors who represent the different faiths of the three schoolgirls in the story. Kudos to Kate Talbot for the colorful illustrations that perfectly match the words.
Every school, library, and bookstore needs this inspiring book on its shelves to spread the message of friendship!

I love this gorgeous book about childhood friendship that flourishes with the celebration of our cultural and religious differences! Because it is about planting, it is perfect for the Jewish holiday, Tu B’shvat. But truthfully is good at any time of year, for any child. Written by three women of different backgrounds and faiths, it is a story from the heart. Kate Talbot’s illustrations are delightful!
