Now Everybody Really Hates Me Paperback – January 25, 1996
Good-bye Cruel World!
Patty Jane Pepper is being unjustly punished. Her parents claim that she punched her brother Theodore. In fact, she only touched him--hard. And she didn't call him a dumbbell, either. She just called him a dumb head. Nonetheless, she's been sent to her room.
So Patty Jane decides to punish her parents back. She'll stay in her room--forever. She'll stay up really, really, really late (so that when she goes to bed it will be the next day), speak in a code that only she understands, and never, ever eat again. Unless, of course, there's something good for dinner...

- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2022Im alarmed to see that some of the more high minded of us are attempting to use this hilarious masterpiece as purely a moral/behavioral allegory of sorts (and in so doing are likely executing some sort of comedic lobotomization on their children).
This book is GREAT. Enjoyable truly for all ages.
Book arrived in good condition.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2019I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK!!!
I came across a review of this book from the NYT from several years ago. Don't know why I didn't order it then, but better late than never.
The author really captures the voice of a real child (not a goodie two shoes). It is hysterical! Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of having a bright, feisty little girl enter his or her life will really appreciate it!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2016Each page is a new chance to talk to your child about their behavior from the story. For me, my son was acting just like the story line. So I asked him things like "do you think what she did was nice" and "do you sometimes act like that" it really helped my 5 year old view his own behavior. At the end of the book he told me he did not like the girl in the book and did not want to be like her.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2015The book was damaged and had pages ripped out of it that I had to tape back in. Very disappointed in the product
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2020Amazing book. Grew up reading this and was so happy to get it and reread.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2005For lovers of Roz Chaste, this is not her writing - only her drawings, so not the wry and pointed humor you might expect. Still, if you love a child who is a grump, a crank or a bossy know-it-all, this may be for her/him. Roz's illustrations make the moral easier to swallow. A good lesson to have on your shelf. And gotta love that Roz.
