One evening, a wife asks her husband a question: who else would you go for, if you could?
It is a simple question – a little game – that will destroy her life.

Carly and Rob are a happy couple. They share happy lives with their children and their close friends Craig and Jenny. They’re lucky.
But beneath the surface, no relationship is simple: can another woman’s husband and another man’s wife ever just be good friends?

Little by little, Carly’s question sends her life spiralling out of control, as she begins to doubt everything she thought was true. Who can she trust? The man she has promised to stick by forever, or the best friend she has known for years? And is Carly being entirely honest with either of them?

Obsession is a dark, twisting thriller about how quickly our lives can fall apart when we act on our desires.

Perfect for fans of Jane Corry and Claire McGowan.

Amazing Read!

Amazing Read!
Wow! What a breathtaking read! Amanda Robson debut book Obsession stimulates the reader emotionally and mentally. It starts with Rob’s wife, Carly, asking him who he would pursue if he had the chance. It is crazy how this one simple question can ruin so many lives. Being a married woman, this book made me feel like I was experiencing my worst nightmare but I could not stop reading it. Every page left you wanting more. To me this book wasn’t a psychological thriller. It is more of a stunning erotica thriller, involving affairs between married couples and violence. It is also told from each character’s perspective; I thought that this was very intriguing, but also disturbing. All personal thoughts and actions were exposed to the reader. Throughout reading this book, I grew to hate the four main characters: Rob and Carly, Craig and Jenni. Both couples have history together as friends. They did everything together, including pregnancy, school, work, church, etc. One question, one night, one answer destroyed all the history that was built between them. It makes you second guess asking a question to your spouse if you can’t handle the answer. Carly made it her mission to destroy Jenni and Craig’s marriage by having an affair with Jenni’s husband, Craig before Jenni could have an affair with her husband Rob. Craig has an affair with Carly while his wife’s mother is dying. He later gets back with his wife, but proceeds to have an affair with another woman, Anastasia. Anastasia at the time was currently going through a divorce due to her spouse cheating on her. In my mind this does not make the relationship between her and Craig okay at all. Jenni, also known as “bitch whore” comes off as sweet and innocent, but later on turns out to be conniving, deceitful and destructive. She tries to seduce Rob and later poisons Carly. Carly has a mental breakdown and is hospitalized. Jenni attempts to fill in her role as Rob’s wife and the gospel’s (Matt, Mark, Luke, John) and Pippa’s mother. She moves away and ends up killing her husband and his mistress. She moves back after Carly convinces her to. Jenni later has a sexual encounter with Rob, although it seems like a rape but later evolves into an affair. Rob, on the other hand, leads the reader to believe that he would never be unfaithful to Carly. He ends up having an affair with Jenni and doubts his wife’s involvement in multiple murders, which later leads to her death. He was so blind to the obvious signs of mental illness, even with his profession being a doctor. There was never a dull moment between the four of them. This book also involves common life issues such as infidelity, sex, drug addiction, mental illness, and alcoholism. Obsession is very dark and has a wide variety of love and hate. The reader goes through all the ups and downs with each character just to be dropped off at the end. I thought there was hope when Carly was exonerated of all charges in court and that her and Rob was going to lead a happy marriage. The climax of events came to a sudden stop with Carly’s suicide. I felt that this ending was cliché and this book could have ended on a much more positive note. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who can handle a tumultuous series of events.

I liked this book, although I felt confused by it at several points. Is Rob in love with Jenni or does he despise her? I honestly didn't know until the end. Something kept me reading, but I'm not sure exactly sure what. Overall it kept me interested enough to keep going, and although maybe a bit confusing and unbelievable at times, it had a decent ending that I wouldn't have foreseen. This is just kind of a strange story. I did feel the characters were well-developed, with the exception of Craig. You will feel sorry for the children in this story, as they seem to be very much only background characters, even though their world was rocked over and over again. I feel it is worth the read.

A simple and innocent question, asked as a part of a little game played between a wife and a husband, ruins 2 families and takes 4 lives.

This debut book by Amanda Robson started well with an attention gripping story, however somewhere half-way through the novel I started to feel impatient and found the story a little bit repetitive. Although initially I only disliked Carly, it turned out that all the characters are highly unlikeable.

All the adults in this story act crazy and somehow unpredictable, and throughout the book I was struggling to figure out who the psycho was (my conclusion is there was more than one). When the schizophrenic relationships between the characters kept on going on, I just wanted for it to stop.

At the same time I have to admit that the author managed to keep me engaged until the end. It was not always clear to me who was guilty of what in the story, until it was made obvious, so I kept on reading to find out.
I did like how the book was written, with each chapter told by a different character and from a different point of view. I also liked how the author managed to include the character’s thought processes as the story developed.

Overall, it was an OK read and I will give another book by Amanda Robson a try (if and when it is published).

This book isn't great literature. Its not going to win the Pulitzer. But it's a perfect treat for those looking for a juicy, twisted, dramatic and somewhat dirty tale of two couples who are best friends. I read it in two days on a beach vacation. It starts with that terrible question all wives ask their husbands at some point. The "if you could sleep with any of my friends, who would it be?" question. Horrible question. And all hell breaks loose after that question is posed in the book. An easy, fun and fast read.

I love a book with a great twist and surprise at the end, but while tragic, there was no real excitement here (that’s why books are labeled as thrillers). This book was dramatic and sad. The writing and editing is the only reason for 2 stars instead of 1. It was not riddled with grammatical issues and typos. Nothing was shocking about the ending and the characters never made you love them or love to hate them.

This book although it held my interest was a major disappointment. At times it was tedious to read and had very little depth. I didn't like one character, and when I reached the end I was looking for more pages to read so I could finish the book. There were too many loose ends, and the characters were all disfuntional people.

I wish I could get the time back in my life that I wasted reading this terrible book.

After reading Amanda Robson’s debut novel, Obsession, I’m still wondering who was telling the truth. I liked the story line, but the characters, while carefully explained in detail about looks and thoughts, still lacked substance. Each of the four main characters took turns telling their version of the story but from the beginning, Carly and Jenni were friends but that didn’t explain much. For example, Carly is immediately jealous of Jenni. The story starts when Carly asks her husband, Rob, who he would bed if he could anyone. From there it was a downhill for me. While mental health issues arise, again I felt let down by the characters. Honestly I found myself skipping to dialogue between the characters and then to the end. As to not give anything away, it has a few twists and bits of steaminess.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. It’s an engrossing read that kept me turning pages all night. The way the author uses her storytelling through the eyes of the main characters gives this book so much. You become enthralled with all the characters and there are many twists and turns that you don’t see coming. I can’t wait to read her next novel!!

Two couples who are also family friends find themselves in the midst of jealousy, hatred, sexual affairs, and Christian beliefs in this debut psycho crime thriller by Amanda Robson. The novel started off well but fizzled out about two-thirds into the book. After all, the moral of the story is karma is a boomerang.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best psychological thrillers I've read for a long time
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 22, 2017
This is a story about two couples who have been friends for many years. It starts with one not so innocent question when the wife asked her husband, "Who else would you go for, if you could?" and there goes the downward spiral of one person's mind. Paranoia, obsession, betrayal, back stabbing and everything else. When reading this book it's like watching a horror movie peeking through your fingers. You're too scared to watch it but can't help it and you really want to know what's going to happen next.

This is written in the POVs of the four main characters, Carly, her husband Rob, Jenni and her husband Craig. Rob is a doctor and his wife Carly is a nurse and they work together in the same practice. Craig is a fireman and his wife Jenni is a housewife but used to be a nurse. Jenni and Carly met at college and they continued their friendship throughout the years. Rob and Carly have three children, one girl and two boys, Jenni and Craig have two boys. All five children are close to each other and goes to the same school , they share holidays and go out together regularly.

Reading through the pages you can feel one of them starting to unravel and getting paranoid when the husband naively tells his wife who he fancies if he has the chance. I tell you now, never ever ask your partner that question because that is a ticking time bomb even if you think your marriage is all hearts and roses, unicorns and rainbows. I don't want to give away any spoilers you just have to read the book but be warned, if you have triggers re cheating then this is not the book for you. Put the book down and walk away slowly then run.

For a debut novel this is pretty impressive. Flipping through the pages is like standing in the middle of a railroad track and seeing the train's headlights coming closer and closer but you can't jump out of the way. You don't want to know who does what, who deserves what's coming to him/her and you think, "Why in the hell are you doing this, you mega super nova douche?" If the characters were real and I bump into one of them on the street I'd give him a very enthusiastic high-five. On his forehead. Then say, "It's all your fault!"

I couldn't put this book down last night and finished it in the early hours of the morning. It has been a long time since a story has wound me up so much it took a while before I could relax when done reading. A well deserved five stars from me. I highly recommend this book to friends but take a chill pill at the same time, I wish I did.
