This is an exact duplication of the lines in the movie and thus a good example of how the printed page becomes "live" and you can read the play and then discuss as a class the actors' interpretations of the lines. My college students are ESL and so that ability to "see" the work's written dialogue in another medium is very helpful.

Days of Wine and Roses Paperback – January 1, 1998
by
J.P. Miller
(Author)
In the fast-moving milieu of Madison Avenue, social drinking is almost an occupational necessity, and one that fast-rising young Joe Clay adopts with too ready ease. Unfortunately the girl he meets and marries shares his proclivity, and while they continue to tell themselves that they drink because they choose to, it is soon apparent that their habit has become a serious problem. But their failure to acknowledge this plunges them headlong into the shattering events of the play a career in shambles, a marriage destroyed, the esteem of friends and family lost, and a child who has become the innocent victim of their obsession. In the poignant ending of the play a spectre of hope arises but, more important, so does a galvanizing awareness of the depth of their torment, and of the lesson which their compulsive self-destruction must have for others.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2017I was led to believe I was buying the book. The play is great, but I thought I was buying the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2014I sort of knew this was a script of the movie but I was hoping it would read like a book since it was old. It was a script and did not have scene descriptions or anything beyond conversation. Not something to sit down and read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2016Such a beautiful and compelling story! I started reading it with the intention of taking a break. That did not happen, no breaks taken because I could not stop reading. I was curious to see what happens next, what happens next?
Please note this is a script with dialogue only. It is not a book. Some people may not realize this if they are not familiar with the world of theater and Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2004J.P. Miller brings you a brilliantly written play that is just as phenomenal to act out if you are looking for a story that will bring out of the depths of your being all you've got to give.
Exquisite plot twists where each moment leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting for the nest as two people in love have to go through the compelling process of facing sobriety.
If you are looking for a play with extraordinary depth this is the one. Outstanding for both reading and acting out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Days of Wine and Roses is beautiful, tragic and honest.
This is a beautiful and honest play about the damaging effects of alcoholism, and the importance of seeking help and finding strength and serenity. It is a love story about Joe and Kirsten and how their love is tested, and ultimately controlled and damaged by this terrible disease. Author J.P. Miller writes with such insight, sensitivity and strength. Read this play, see the film. You will be so moved!!
