The best mysteries can only be solved with your best friends. The perfect summer read for fans of Stuart Gibbs.

Paul Marconi has always thought that Bellwood was a strange town, but also a boring one. Not much for an eleven-year-old to do. Fires are burning nearby, Paul's parents are obsessed with winning a bratwurst contest, and his best friend, one of the founding members of their only-child detective club, the One and Onlys, is about to acquire a younger sister, sort of undoing their whole reason for existing. But then! Hundreds of rubber duckies have appeared on the lawn of poor Mr. Babbage without any explanation. Finally! There is something that Paul and his friends can actually investigate.

In the face of all these bizarre occurrences, Paul is convinced that uncovering who deposited the duckies will finally bring some sense to what has become an upside-down world. Soon the three friends have a long list of suspects, all with their own motives, but no clear culprit. When everything comes to a head at the town's annual Bellwood Bratwurst Bonanza, Paul discovers that some things
don't have an easy explanation and not every mystery can be solved.

A perfect summer story about friends, amateur sleuthing, and a whole lot of rubber duckies.

“The perfect mix of hilarious and heartwarming—kids won’t be able to get enough of Paul and his friends’ Bellwood adventures.”—Elsie Chapman, author of

My grandson checked this book out at our local library. We loved it so much we had to purchase it for ourselves! We enjoyed the humor and suspense! I appreciated the lack of inappropriate verbage. It's a book that's hard to put down. There is a 2nd book!! Already received our next book from this series, "Finally Something Dangerous"! Can't wait to finish it.

This is a great book for the middle school boys in your life. Girls will enjoy it too, but good books for boys are harder to find. Adventure and mystery in a small town. Recommended.

I read this middle school mystery straight through--three winsome central characters task themselves to solve their small town's mystery. "Finally Something Mysterious" is structured like a detective procedural. We see the mystery unfold through the eyes of Paul Marconi (on the cusp of 6th Grade). Paul's voice is believable: he is a shrewd observer, a devoted friend, witty and often very funny. The story has its serious moments woven deftly into the events as they unfold. The solution comes in a series chapters centering on the local bratwurst contest and the exposure of the culprit--masterfully done! There are small towns, but no small mysteries.

Finally, Something Mysterious is a quick, light, well-constructed read for adults and a clever, mysterious detective story for younger readers. For me personally, the story didn’t hide its mysteries all that well, but the character and plot work is so solid that I didn’t mind. I recommended Finally, Something Mysterious for middle-grade readers on up!

I bought this for my 8-year-old son, so I didn't read it myself. But I can tell you that it's some sort of whodunnit, and it kept him engaged and scratching his head until the last few pages.I believe it is intended for slightly older children. He had a little trouble keeping up with the language, but he is an advanced student and he made it through great. This book is probably best for children 10 and up.

We read this together with my son just as he was turning 7. We were cracking up every night and we were all so invested in figuring out the mystery! I would say age 6 would be the earliest to read it and kids up to age 11 or 12 would probably enjoy it, although my husband and I enjoyed it so I suppose there's really no upper age limit :) We hope it becomes a series!
