When Summer Ends, The Dark Days Begin

Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Matthew 12:32

Jeffrey Conley sits beside Aunt Jenny at Sunday evening service, the hard wooden bench serving as security in the midst of chaos. He has come home - to a land of loss. Parents, dead. Grandparents, dead. Twin brother, dead two hours after birth. Great-aunts, great-uncles, Aunt Jenny’s husband Lawton, all dead. All decaying in their graves.

But something lives. Something dark. Something evil.

And it wants to drag Jeffrey Conley to Hell.

Review

"Jeffrey battles with his pubescent self, with a mind full of doubts, while dealing with his high-functioning autism (Asperger Syndrome) andhis ongoing war with the demon. This makes the novel a great insightinto the struggles an autistic boy faces. There is a 'Catcher-in-the-Rye' feel to this novel by Potts. I would love to read more of his work."

From the Author

My goal in writing Unpardonable Sin was to combine the Christian mythos with the Lovecraftean mythos. Obviously something had to give--and in this case Lovecraft's world did most of the giving. In the world of this book, the Christian God is God of the universe, but there are transdimensional realms in which entities exist that in this world would be called "psychopathic." They are powerful, can change shapes, can enter people's dreams, and their real appearance is Cthulhu-like, tentacled, with parts "out of order." In the novel, one of these creatures periodically enters this world through a portal. Since this portal is in the American South, the Bible Belt, the entity learns about the local religion, a version of Fundamentalist Christianity. It then appears to a vulnerable teenager in the form of a demon and attempts to drive the teen to despair and suicide. I label this entity "The Antibeing." The hero, Jeffrey Conley, believes the antibeing to be a demon as described by Christianity. The Antibeing uses Jeffrey's fears that he has committed the unpardonable sin to drive him to despair and guide him to madness and suicide. Yet since God remains in control of the universe, Jeffrey may find he has unexpected help in his battle against the Antibeing. The Antibeing knows of God, calling Him "The Enemy," and believes that God will not interfere in the Antibeing's "game." Yet the Antibeing may discover that is not the case, and a young teen may be a more formidable opponent than he thought.

I loved the first book, END OF SUMMER, and this continued the coming of age elements I loved so much in that work. I found the exploration of how the character navigates adolescence with Aspergers very insightful. The demon or "unbeing" chapters actually confused the story for me; sometimes I felt like I was reading two different books. If the "unbeing" could have been just a demon that would have been enough,so all the, hype about it being worse or from another dimension just distracted from the real story, which was definitely worth reading! Great southern coming of age novel meets supernatural horror verses theological dilemma

I enjoyed this book about a highly functional autistic boy who is tempted to sin against God by a Lovecraftian being pretending to be a Christian demon. I especially loved the childhood flashbacks to a simpler time set during the 1970s in rural Tennessee and the very honest and real issues that young people experience during puberty such as first love, betrayal, death of family members and loved ones and wondering if their changing bodies and hormonal drives are normal. I also enjoyed the insight into what it's like to come of age with autism/Asperger's Syndrome. A well-written and often bittersweet tale of a teen-aged boy's coming of age.

This was twisted faith with god or evil and demons. This is very dark it's show how Jeffrey is fighting and battling evil. I have no clue how I finished by his book but I did. This book double shot of holy s***. Must read all

"Unpardonable Sin" by Michael Potts is a suspenseful ride through one man's journey on life's road. We all, in some way, face our demons and Michael's book gives you an up close and personal encounter with this experience. This book is very well written and researched. You will see every picture in your mind -- and sometimes you'll wish you couldn't!!

Unpardonable Sin. The title alone speaks of hopelessness, fear, desolation, spiritual warfare - all elements, and more, present in a book that was often too scary to continue reading, but too fascinating and intriguing to put down.

We are given visions of horror, pure evil, demonic presence and possession - but through the eyes of a child. What but pure, destructive evil can use a child so, and Who but God stop it? The book doesn't preach at you. It is not a squeaky clean recitation of God's goodness, far from it. The story contains strong language and sexual content bold enough to highlight the source of evil, but these things develop the intricacies of each character and rocket the plot forward in a manner more terrifying than a ride in the front car of a screeching, rusty, collapsing, mile-high roller-coaster. In the dark.

Are you ready for your ride?
