With its lively, demystifying approach, The Tao of Inner Peace shows how the Tao can be a powerful and calming source of growth, inspiration, and well-being in times of conflict and anxiety.

Translated more often than any other book except the Bible, the Tao Te Ching has been a spiritual guide for centuries, helping millions find peace within themselves, with each other, and with the natural world around them. Written in workbook style, complete with exercises, questionnaires, journal-keeping techniques, and affirmations, The Tao of Inner Peace translates the ancient Eastern philosophy into a plan for contemporary Western living. Diane Dreher, Ph.D., shows the way to:

• Bring greater joy, fulfillment, and creativity to daily life
• Heal the body and spirit
• Build self-acceptance and self-esteem
• Resolve conflict
• Reverse negative cycles of emotion
• Understand life as a process of changes and challenges

An essential handbook for mental wellness,
The Tao of Inner Peace adapts the principles of Tao to today’s world, showing us how to integrate the many facets of our everyday lives to create a balanced, dynamic, harmonious whole.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“A simple and comprehensive vision of personal and planetary peace… Dreher’s examples work as meditations as well as road maps.”—Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Especially important are [Dreher’s] examples of individual action and her many annotations… her lessons are quite useful. This is an important subject… and one that promises to bring a renewal of environmental consciousness.”—
Booklist

“Filled with anecdotes, questions to stimulate discussion, guidelines for change, exercises to promote positive peacefulness, with lots of Tao philosophy scattered throughout supporting each phase of [Dreher’s] plan.”—
Santa Cruz Sentinel

If you are exploring religions, if you are on a path of self-discovery, if you are looking to find a more positive & peaceful version of yourself, or if you are just looking for a great book you can pick up and put down anytime, this is the book for you. It explores the teachings of the Chinese book, the Tao te Ching, (the second most translated book in history, after the Bible). The Tao te Ching was written around 600 B.C. to inspire people to seek the path to peace within themselves, with others, and with nature. There are beautiful translations from the Tao te Ching in this book, accompanied by ways to associate its knowledge with things that take place in the modern world. With this book, I have learned to strike a better balance in my life, to see the positive in everything and respecting that there is negative as well. I do yoga as well, and this book has been a great companion to my home practice. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone. I have actually just ordered my third copy. The first one I read until it was in tons of pieces, and the other I have loaned to so many people, I use it now solely for that purpose- to share it with people who need it. This would be a great gift for someone going through a lot of grief, or a huge life change. All-around, one of my top five favorite books of all time.

Diane Dreher's "The Tao of Inner Peace" is a wonderful and thought-provoking exploration of the Tao Te Ching. The author provides modern-day insights and inspiration on how to apply the ancient Tao to our lives today. I highly recommend it!

I have long been a reader of the Tao Te Ching and have tried to follow and incorporate Taoist principles in my life. This book does a wonderful job for an introductory reader to learn about the Tao in a non-condescending way. Even better, for readers who already have done some exploring, it helps to open your mind and show you more exercises for practicing mindfulness, questioning yourself and your beliefs, accepting the flow and the natural order, and great mantras and exercises for learning to be a Tao Person. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to learn more about Taoist principles and really starting to incorporate those principles into your life.

If you a serious about changing your way of thinking because your unhappy, or having trouble's with a spouse or family member's ... this book is for you. It helped me with my depression.
I've read this book more times than I could count and have given it as a gift to family or friends who are going through a hard time for whatever reason.
I use a highlighter as I read, then when I reread, I just go to "my" highlights when I'm in in a slump. But each time I read "The Tao of Inner Peace" I end up highlighting more and more.
I highly recommend this book for anybody, any age, and financial bracket. Religion has nothing to do with the way this book is/was written.

Almost finished it for the first time. It has a lot of very sensible instruction for the modern world. Shame that most of the world will never read nor understand the reality of life.
I will be re-reading most of this book again and doing some of the relaxation exercises
Having read various versions of the "Tao Teh Ching" several times this is a good companion to it and puts the original into a modern context

4.0 out of 5 stars Le tao de la paix intérieure
Reviewed in France on October 13, 2012
Certainement, j'y reviendrai encore !
