Allen Carr was an accountant and smoked 100 cigarettes a day until he gave up and wrote this bestselling book. I was literally at the end of my rope. I've been smoking since I was 12, I'm 35 now. I was smoking 2 packs a day, my kids complained of the smell, my 3 year old mimicked everything I did including wanting Mommy's cigarettes to mimic smoking, my husband can't stand the smell,I couldn't either. I hated smoking. I hated I had to have it. I feared the withdrawal and failing as I have time and time again. I looked for solutions and stumbled upon this book. Read the reviews and just knew these weren't legit and too good to be true. I also said it was probably worth a shot bc I spend money on two packs a day I can afford to buy the book just once. I was doubtful but kept an open mind while reading, I agreed with literally everything he wrote. Everything. I knew the dangers of smoking, my health, the smell, the need, the lies I tell myself bc I feared quitting and feared losing my crutch. I have smoked more than half my life. All of my adult life, it was a new thing and scary for me but I read this book and by 3/4 of the way into the book I really didn't even want that last cigarette. I smoked it anyway, I made sure to "taste" and remember every negative thing about it. I smoked it, let my children rip up the 2 and a half packs of cigs I had (they were so happy about it) and watching them shred my crutch didn't bother me a bit I was worried I'd wake up and want that cig with my morning coffee. NOTHING! Didn't crave it, didn't bother me. I do get done eating sometimes and be like ok time to smoke... Then it hits me instantly after that I'm no longer a smoker and I don't need nor want it. I haven't felt withdrawal as I have in the past when I tried. I'm not short tempered or ill like I imagined I would be. I now have a new life, without smoking, I used to run track and loved it. After smoking all these years I couldn't do it anymore. Now, I will be returning to running and playing sports with my kids like I've always wanted and not think how I want a cigarette as soon as we are done. My husband was shocked at just 14 hours in I still didn't want a cigarette bc by then I'd usually cave. This book and this wonderful man gave me my life back. I'd love to write him if he were here to tell him how thankful I really am. BUY THE BOOK! What do you have to lose? Nothing at all, but you have everything to gain I promise.

    TLDR: I had never before tried to quit. I didn't know if I even wanted to quit. I thought the title sounded so cheesy & couldn't be legit, but I gave it a try. I read it. It worked 100% – I stopped smoking within hours of finishing the book, have been smoke-free ever since (9 months) and will never smoke again in my entire life. GET IT! IT WORKS!

    After over a decade as a pack-a-day-or-more smoker, I read this book, and I quit without any physical or mental anguish, and with complete confidence that I will never smoke another cigarette again for as long as I live. It feels amazing. It has been 9 months now, and I can say in all sincerity that after following Carr's method, I have not had a single authentic craving since the moment I put out my final cigarette. The smell of cigarette smoke is absolutely repulsive to me now. When I see people smoking I cannot believe that I was stuck in that trap for so long, and I wish I could stop and tell them all how easy it could be for them to finally be free!

    The brilliance of Carr's method is that he strips away every possible myth and misconception we hold about why we smoke, and replaces it with facts. Once fully internalized, the truth is impossible to unsee. And once you see it, smoking holds absolutely zero allure for you – it is reduced to what it really is: an addiction to lighting a toxic weed on fire, and inhaling the fumes of the burning poison into your lungs. Smoking doesn't help you focus – it is the urge to smoke that distracts you in the first place. It does not calm your nerves – you are perpetually more stressed all the time because you are anxious about how, when, and where you will next get to smoke. It doesn't give you energy – your energy is low all the time because you're constantly in one phase of nicotine withdrawal or the other.

    Carr walks you through these myths and many more in great detail, and if you read with intention and an open mind, I can't imagine he won't get through to you. Once the myths are shattered, your will to smoke is gone. By about halfway through the book it was already working – I found every cigarette an absolute chore, even though I followed his instructions and did not cut down nor attempt to quit until the very end. I actually began to feel it took willpower to *continue* smoking at that point (as opposed to willpower to *stop* smoking, as society would have you believe). You do not need willpower to quit doing something that you don't enjoy doing, that is providing you no benefit, and is robbing you of your physical, mental, and financial wellbeing. You need the truth. And that's what Carr gives you.

    I am grateful everyday for Allen Carr. I am certain I will live a longer – but even more so a HAPPIER – life as a result of this book empowering me to quit smoking.

    I will note that there are some elements of Carr's cultural perspectives/references that are a bit dated. While some of this may feel like it doesn't apply to you (I'm a 30-something, so I definitely felt that) directly, know that the same general ideas apply to almost every generation. For the most part, I read Carr like he was my grandfather's wise and charming friend – a *bit* out-of-touch from a cultural perspective, but warm, funny, and charismatic none the less. And more to the point, none of this distracts from the overall efficacy of the book or the underlying method it teaches.

    If you're on this page (and read this far down into my lengthy review), you know on some level that you don't want to be a smoker anymore. This costs less than a pack of smokes – you have nothing to lose and everything to gain – give it a shot!

    I'm still in the early stages of having quit (day 10), but I feel like this time it's different than other times I've tried to quit. The logic that Carr lays out in the book worked for me to get me over the hump to quit. I haven't tried to quit in 15 years ('m a 30 year plus smoker). But this time it feels different. I don't feel like I'm giving up something precious or valuable. The book says you don't need willpower. I'm not sure that is 100% true as the cravings will come, but you are psychologically ready to deal with them and the willpower needed doesn't feel like a monumental effort. Give it a try. I bought the book 1.5 years before I actually quit. Waited until I was "ready" to start reading it. And even then, I wasn't "ready" and parked it after reading half of it. Picked it back up 6 months later and now my life as a non-smoker begins. Very grateful that Allen Carr helped change my perspective making it fairly easy for me to quit smoking!

I have a very love/hate relationship with smoking. I love smoking, but I hate the shame that comes along with it. The other issue is that as I’ve gotten older, my heart has not liked it at all and I started getting palpitations. After a rough weekend, l decided once and for all that I was done. I was looking for recommendations online and came across someone raving about this book and how it helped them quit. I figured it honestly couldn’t hurt to try even though I was deeply skeptical. I will say this book is very repetitive. Like annoyingly repetitive. I read it over the course of a week. Just a couple pages here and there. When I started reading it, I had a full pack of cigarettes left. It helped me cut down so much that by the time I was done reading I had one cigarette left and I was borderline a chain smoker. I smoked my last cigarette in March and it’s now August. That’s not to say that it wasn’t rough for a bit but holy cow so much more manageable than I thought it was going to be.     Had to write this after my experience being total non smoker for 6 years since purchase. If you are reading this, trust me, this works like a absolute magic. I was a smoker for 13 years and was getting fed up of hiding and smoking, shame, money being wasted, family's despair that I planned to quit several times but all in vein.
    Problem why I always relapsed was because my method was totally clueless as to how to stay quit because some way or other, extreme urges used to come back always and I used to smoke harder than before. Then around December 2018, I finally thought of staying quit no matter what but don't know from when to stop. I told them my smoking friends and few more about my decision to quit seriously and fortunately, SO SO FORTUNATELY, one of those friends recommended me this PRECIOUS BOOK and after reading it, I have been a non smoker for 6 years because it's January 2025 now. I won't say much as to how this book works but JUST GO FOR IT, I have been there!!!!!!!! :)
