Terri Elders' first byline appeared in 1946 on a piece about how bats saved her family's home from fire, published on the children's page of the Portland Oregonian. At nine years old, she hadn't known that her title, "Bats in Our Belfry," would lead readers to suspect her family's sanity.
Unrepentant, she's continued to spill the beans, sharing secrets in the form of anthology stories. Her indiscretions have been featured in over 150 books, including such series as Chicken Soup for the Soul, A Cup of Comfort, Thin Threads, Moments and HCI Ultimate.
Initially a high school English and journalism teacher, Terri changed careers in the late '60s, and became a licensed clinical social worker, after earning an MSW from UCLA. She's worked with such agencies as Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services, the Arkansas Department of Health, and both Peace Corps and AmeriCorps*VISTA.
Terri served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Belize, Dominican Republic, Seychelles, and the Gulf States with the Crisis Corps Hurricane Katrina Initiative. From 2000 to 2004 she worked at Peace Corps Headquarters in Washington DC as a program and training specialist for community health and HIV/AIDS, first for InterAmerica/Pacific Region and subsequently for Europe/Mediterranean/Asia Region. In 2003, UCLA's School of Public Policy and Social Affairs honored her as a Distinguished Alumna. In 2006 she received the UCLA Alumni Award for Community Service.
From 2006 to 2014 Terri served as a public member of the Washington State Medical Commission, appointed by then-Governor Christine Gregoire. In 2018-2019 she served as a member of the Orange County, CA, Grand Jury. Since 2015 she has been a California AARP State Volunteer for the 45th Congressional District.
She's happy to be back in her native Southern Califoria, close to her beloved Pacific Ocean.
Jack Canfield is an award-winning speaker and an internationally recognized leader in personal development and peak performance strategies. Jack is the author and co-author of more than 150 books (including 66 bestsellers) with more than 100 million copies in print in 47 languages around the world. His bestselling book, THE SUCCESS PRINCIPLES: HOW TO GET FROM WHERE YOU ARE TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE has been hailed as the new self-improvement classic. In 2014, SUCCESS magazine named him "One of the Most Influential Leaders in Personal Growth and Achievement." He holds the Guinness World Record for having the greatest number of books on the New York Times bestseller list at the same time.

She now lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, Nathan, and is the proud mother of two college students. She has practiced internal medicine for over 25 years and penned Patients I Will Never Forget thanks to her inspiring and hilarious patients. She loves to read, write, bicycle, cook, and cater to the whims of her demanding but adorable silky terrier, Tiger Lily. She does not enjoy the six hours per week she commits to the Elliptical, but does it anyway to keep up with her love of all things chocolate.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2020This a great collection of stories that are uplifting and educational. They are by turn heartfelt, humorous, sad and pointed. I loved reading the original 20 stories that started the series way back in 1993 and then the 20 new stories for the twentieth anniversary. I always learn so much from these stories. I laugh I cry I sigh I'm inspired this is a wonderful series. I've read many of the books in this series and they are always great. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and if you wanted to be inspired then this book is for you. Don't ever stop doing these books. More Please!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2024Truly, this book is manna for the soul.
The book had me laughing, and crying and you just feel better
about our hope for humanity after reading these heart-warming stories.
I always thought big deal, who wants to read cheesy stories.
These stories ARE NOT CHEESY.
THEY. ARE. SOULFUL.
If you've a friend or family member going through, say an illness or a rough-spot in life. GET THEM THIS BOOK.
It's inspiring. It's TRULY inspiring.
And is a gift I've given many times.
Massive Respect to Hansen and Canfield for getting this to the world.
It is INDEED, "Chicken Soup for the Soul"

- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2014This is a book full of inspirational stories, centering for the most part on keeping or developing a positive attitude, perseverance and paying it forward. This book contains all the stories from the original publication, plus 20 “bonus” stories. Each story is around 2-5 pages in length, and I think they are best consumed one or two at a time, instead of all in one sitting. It would be a good book to read over the course of a year, reading one story a day. By the end of the book I found the common themes in the stories a little repetitive and almost hyper-optimistic, but they were worthwhile themes. I particularly enjoyed the stories of people who did crazy little things to brighten another’s day, hoping they would pay it forward. Nice collection that manages to be inspirational without being particularly religious.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2023Don't let negative comments steal your dreams. And NEVER let anyone, esp a teacher tell you your child is less than a average. Time changes everything, be kind and gentle. Lastly, give your kids books they choose every week and read to them. My nieces teacher read a CSFTS story before class every day. Best class she and the
other kids really looked forward to.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2022Even though that Chicken Soup for the Soul serie has been around for quite some time I never read any. And as a book lover I don’t know why! I really enjoyed reading these stories. They were really heartwarming and inspiring. No doubt, we humans are more resilient than we can imagine. Looking forward to read all the books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifts the mood and promotes a positive outlook.
I wake up every morning and once I’ve gotten freshed up, this is the first thing I read before doing anything else. And it really helps my soul, reading such beautiful stories and counts of people’s lives that really promotes a positive image of life and of the self. Hundred out of hundred would recommend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Falta profundidad a los relatos.
