90 spirit-free cocktail recipes from leading and lauded mixologists across the country

More than 100 years after Prohibition was enacted, bartenders are actually excited about people not drinking again. From Dry January and alcohol-free bars opening around the country to people interested in abstaining from drinking for better health, the no-proof movement is one of today's fastest-growing lifestyle choices, as consumers become more mindful and re-examine their relationship to alcohol. The no-proof drinker could be anyone, and even traditional bars have taken note with no-alcohol offerings. What do the world's most talented bartenders concoct when they can't use booze? This book answers that question with 90 lush and sophisticated recipes that take the craft to new heights. Veteran reporter Elva Ramirez interviewed the biggest names in cocktails and collected recipes for vibrant no-proof drinks from the world's top bars in Paris, London, and New York. This is the start of a new era in no-proof drinking.

Find recipes from renowned bars all over the world, including Death & Co in Denver and NYC, Employees Only, The Aviary NYC, Broken Shaker in LA, Everleaf Drinks in London, Little Red Door in Paris, and many more.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“For at-home drink mixers, the book is worth every penny before you’ve even gotten to the recipes, as the prep and mindset section makes practical bar knowledge easy to remember and use. The recipes themselves sparkle with inventiveness and are approachable both to make and to serve, intuitively arranged by flavor profiles. For folks in the bar world, this is not just a treasure trove of drink ideas, it’s a thoroughly researched history of the category and the bar world’s response to it.”   —Lorelei Bandrovschi, founder of Listen Bar    —

Latest Trends But Not Healthy
From Juliano’s Raw to Matthew Kenney’s Plant Lab plus the advent of vegan IG blogs and how-to YT videos, learning to craft food & drink creatively has never been easier.I came across the mindful drinking movement at “Veggiekins” on IG and noticed her healthy bar cart with a range of non-alcoholic (NA) spirits and the Zero Proof book. I loved it and ordered the book.1) Zero Proof recipes come from the trendiest bars in London, NYC, LA, etc., so expect exotic ingredients and chef-level tools like a sous vide immersion circulator.2) If French Laundry-level cooking is your thing and you want to apply that skill to libations then you probably have the latest professional equipment from PolyScience.3) The photos of the NA cocktails are oddly not appealing or motivating so you must assume high labor = exquisite flavor.4) It feels like a promotional for Seedlip because it’s the NA spirit in the recipes. Seedlip is a wonderful brand but so many delicious NA spirits have entered the market that they deserve a mention. Here are some IG resources:botan.distillerybaxbotanicsamass.botanicsjuniperldrinksseedlipdrinksseedlipcocktailsproposition.coovant_distillationsoddbirddrinksurelycognatowinesnoughtyafnoboozebabes5) The recipes are not low sugar as many recipes require syrup(s) even with fresh juice and NA spirits. If you’re more into fresh ingredients than NA spirits than I recommend “Mocktail Party” by Benson & Licalzi or “Gazoz” by Briga & Sussman.

A stunning and wonderfully immersive splash into the world of zero proof cocktails. Insightfully composed via both prose and alluringly delicious imagery. A great book to have on hand in multiples to share with friends!

While there are a fair amount of recipes that call for liquor substitutes, like seedlip... The book contains are more than enough recipes without them to make it a worthwhile purchase. There are also a lot of truly zero-proof drinks, without the inclusion of bitters whatsoever. By no means, an easy recipe book, though there are a few recipes using only store bought ingredients... If you're willing to put in the work to make your own syrups and components, this should make for some interesting drinking experiences.

So, the mocktails themselves are good tasting but the ingredients called for are hard to find without going to a specialty store. The recipes are also time consuming.
Who has time for that? I know I don't!

I bought this book recently and have made some of the recipes and I like it a lot. I borrowed 5 mocktail books from the library and bought this one because I thought it was the best. Some of the others were more about juice drinks rather than cocktail replacements.

I imagine the recipes are very good, but I couldn't find a lot of the ingredients in my local grocery store.

Overall this is a very creative and fun book. I was able to find 35 recipes that if I bought just a few ingredients I could easily make. It would be nice if there was a section on substation suggestions. A lot of the recipes use grapefruit juice which is a no-no if you are avoiding alcohol and are on statin medication. Also a no-no for people with liver issues that need to avoid alcohol but would like a fun alternative. There are many intricate recipes to make various syrups that require LOTS of ingredients. Many also require a Sous Vide Immersion circulator to make.
