Review
Praise for the Science Comics series:
"This series―written by a handful of authors―seems determined to offer a useful introduction to anything a curious grade-school student might wonder about. The insight behind these books is a powerful one. So much information about the world around us is actually better conveyed visually, through charts, illustrations, and sequential panels, than purely using words." ―New York Times
"Like having a Time Life Science Library in comic books. Which is awesome!" ―Popular Science
Praise for Science Comics: Plagues:

- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2021This is just an incredible book. I got it for my 6 year old son. He loved it and has reread it a few times now.
I too found it very informative and I must say I learned a lot. But what I liked the best is the way the information is presented. It doesn't read like a non-fiction; it is like a true comic book with some villains :0). They have amusing personalities and my son really liked it (as did I). I think there is a lot for kids to learned from this book; different types of diseases, not just viruses and bacteria; there is lots of history to learn (in a really intriguing way) and also about future potentials. Since we are in the middle of a pandemic, my son really got a lot out of it. It has a lot of clever humor.
In general I like these books. Some are better than others. But this one really stands out!!! We have about 8 and this one is by far the best. I don't know why the price is lower (it is under $8 now), when all others are over $10. It is worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2021My 8 and 5-year-old boys love graphic novels, so someone recommended this series to me. There are many subjects to choose from, but I thought this one would provide some helpful background info on different types of infections to aid in their understanding of the pandemic. My 8 year old read it all in one sitting and said that he loved it and wanted the entire Science Comics collection. They do a great job of explaining facts in age-appropriate ways while making it interesting enough to capture kids' attention through the use of engaging storytelling and imagery. I love that I can help my kids explore different scientific subjects in a way that doesn't feel like busy work to them.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2024Both my 9 year old and 12 year old enjoy the book. Seems like there are several authors depending on the books, from the same series. 12 year old recommends Falynn Koch, the author that wrote this particular book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 20217 yr old absolutely loves it! He finished the book on his own in the first two days then asked me to read it for him again and again, because we could look up stuff together and have discussions. It was hilarious but also with lots of solid background information and scientific facts. The 4 yr old needs some help to get things from the book but started scribbling neutrophils right away. Just started a second book from the series on rocks and minerals and it’s a hit too! Have a bad feeling that might have to buy the whole series sooner or later (ouch!)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2020Wow, to think that someone put together two things that so many children love: Science and graphic novels, is a dream for this teacher! This book in particular has been beneficial in explaining how germs/viruses, etc. get passed, as well as what our bodies do to fight it off.
If you have children or if you're a teacher (I'd say 2nd grade and up), these books are a must have for your home or classroom library! I purchased this particular title for my son, but after reading it myself, I will definitely look to purchase the entire collection for my classroom library!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2019Bought a couple of these science comics on the recommendation of a science teacher friend and I cannot believe how many hours our kids have spent reading them. The Plagues one has been of particular interest (and my 6 year old now knows an alarming number of facts about deadly diseases!) - SUCH a great series. Highly recommend for kids as young as early elementary school. It's good science, made SO accessible by the excellent illustrations and graphic novel format.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2022Some books in this series are awesome and some are less intriguing but this one is a winner with my seven year old science fan. For reference he also loved the coral reefs (snooze fest if we have to read to him lol), sharks and dinosaurs. Robots and drones was not a winner for us.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2024My 5 year old likes it and now he washes his hands more frequently. It’s hard to explain or translate all that jargon, but it’s a good introduction to the world of microbiology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book about microbes
I borrowed it from library and my 5yr old totally loves it. So I decided to buy one. Great book with lots of information written in a fun way that kids would love to read. My kid can’t read it independently yet, but with my help, she’s able to enjoy it and remembered a lot of advanced words from it. Before this book, I didn’t know germs can be introduced in such a fun way.

5.0 out of 5 stars 8 year old read it 3 times in a day
Amazing. Obviously very applicable at the moment (covid 19), but covers a massive range of topics to do with illnesses and disease. Very interesting story that helped hold my 8 year olds attention the whole time, whilst simultaneously being extremely educational. Explaining the roles of different white blood cells, how vaccination works etc etc. The whole series is brilliant.
The price seems high, but honestly, given how educational, and how many times he's already read this one (probably upto 6+ already within a week or two), it's well worth it.
