5.0 out of 5 stars Great topic and designI'm so happy getting this book finally. The topic and descriptions are so mysterious, unique and incredible. As an illustrator I'm excited with the cover design. Just I'm sad with some issue: the paper was wet and dirty, maybe it was happened during the delivery. In any case, I don't want to set less stars its not the right way to solve it. Thanks!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2021The book conjures beautiful imagery. The story is bittersweet and its an easy read. I thought I was in the middle of this traveller story about survival filled with old world mysticism and then BAM vampires. I don't have a problem with vampire storylines, I just felt like the plot changes genres halfway through the book, maybe it's just me. Still a good read.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2020This is by far one of my favorite books this year. I loved the characters and their background as travelers. I also loved that this book helped to tell the story of slavery of the travelers that so few know about.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2024Beautifully written, and highly captivating I would’ve loved to of seen their life post to change and go on a little longer it cut off a little too short, but a wonderful read
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2020Heads up this is not a vampire book. The first vampire isn’t even mentioned until you’re about 80% of the way through the book. Despite that, it still held my interest, and, overall, I enjoyed it.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2021This Gothic feminist origins story of the Brides of Dracula was commissioned by the Bellatrix Project in the UK, a project aimed at telling the stories of women "in literature and in life" that have been "untold, mis-told, or unheard." Hargrave's telling is as beautifully crafted as this stunning cover—an intoxicating and gorgeously written tale that is equal parts horrifying and reclaiming. She weaves her story and lore with the threads of the nomadic Traveller people group, giving voice to the persecution they have faced as well as honoring the beauty within their culture. I was enthralled throughout and particularly appreciated the complex representation of female strength and motivation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jahreshighlight 2019!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Dracula re-telling
I was immediately taken and intrigued because of the blurb of this book - a re-telling of Dracula but in a different POV, that of one of the girls who ends up being his so-called 'Bride'.
Besides the above mentioned reason that had me reading this book was the fact that the action was taking place in my neck of the woods, a few centuries in the past, of course. I'm always curious to see how an author portrays my country's history, I want to see my country's past through their eyes.
Let me tell you, Ms. Hargrave did it justice. See, we have two sisters, Lil & Kizzy and they are Romany. They travel with their family and they have tamed, dancing bears they form a connection with. Now, the way these two girls, along with their family, are seen breaks your heart. The prejudice, the hate, the rejection... unfortunately, it still exists. Even centuries later this discrimination is still alive, I see it everywhere around me, and it's sad.
The writer's style had me turning the pages, even though the story isn't what I expected and what many expected, from what I have seen. This bothered others, but it didn't bother me. Reading about the losses and the heartache and the journey of these two girls was really something else.
Hence why I will definitely read other books by this author. 4.5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing great except for the cover
The story has a lot of flaws and the plot and characters are unconvincing
