About the author
In October of 2011, my career in holding down office furniture came to an end with the sweep of a budgetary axe. Now I write, edit, and review fiction and non-fiction. I am much happier. The cats tolerate me being at home more often. I work with amazing, awe-inspiring, and creative people.
I'm a woodworker and toy builder in my spare time.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2016This is the sequel to Sikes's "Gods of Chicago," and it's just as gripping, oddly amusing and deep as the first novel.
The broad strokes and even some of the finer details of Gods of Chicago are present. Both feature main characters Brand, Aiden and Emma on the airship Vigilance, dealing with mysterious 'gods' in human form and a phantom city behind the city we perceive with our five senses. The themes of race war and the dangers of summoning supernatural entities are still here, but there are no cliched Voodoo spirits running around.
Although there is a lot of action, as you would expect, the book also works well when it's in slow burn mode; the better parts are made of conversation, dialogue and moments when the main characters venture into the unknown. The plot sustains interest throughout, and the ending is suitably magical and ingenious.
It's well-written, easily readable with a strong period feel, and is at times a nail-biting piece of escapist adventure. Highly recommended.
