Introduction to Classical and Quantum Computing is for students who want to learn quantum computing beyond a conceptual level, but who lack advanced training in mathematics. The only prerequisite is trigonometry, and mathematics beyond that will be covered, including linear algebra. This book is suitable as a course textbook or for independent study.

The text begins with a significant overview of classical computing, from how they add numbers to their computational limits, and it mirrors many of the quantum computing topics that are covered later. Then, the investigation of quantum computing begins with a single qubit and quantum gates acting on it, first using geometry and elementary algebra, and later using linear algebra. Computer algebra systems are utilized, and code for both Mathematica and SageMath is included. After one qubit, multi-qubit systems are covered, including how quantum computers add numbers, universal gate sets, and error correction. After this, readers learn how to program quantum circuits on actual quantum processors using IBM Quantum Experience. Afterward, entanglement and quantum protocols are explored. Finally, quantum algorithms are examined, culminating in Shor's algorithm for factoring. Abundant use of the Quirk quantum simulator is used throughout. Finally, a short discussion of careers in quantum computing is provided, along with some possible technical topics to learn next.

Great book but my copy had a few pages missing

Great book but my copy had a few pages missing
This is a great and accessible introduction to the topic. The only downside is that my copy came with a few pages missing. Too bad I waited nearly a year to start reading it since I can no longer return it for a replacement.

This book really surprised me and is among my favorite computing books geared towards quantum computing. It starts with the basics of the choice relevant math, electronics for this topic and works its way up to linear algebra and quantum computing and practices. Just right mix for me as a retired engineer seeking understanding of this advancing field of quantum mechanics. So much in one volume is impressive in its own way!. Many topics are review and enough new and and are quickly assimilated via this awesome format by Dr. Wong. Kudos to him on his awesome achievement with this book. Money well spent, I just purchased a second copy too for my reference shelf.

I only have a semester of calc 1, and no linear algebra experience, much of the math in this book was a first encounter for me. The author is *incredibly* good at explaining concepts in a way that is easy to read while still clear, thorough, and professional. The exercises are great and have solutions. The pictures are clear.

I have done 2 semesters of CS major core courses: this book's beginning chapter on classic CS theory taught more about that than anything I've encountered in college thus far (the attention given to classical logic gates and the practice exercises are exceptional).

Overall, thrilled by this book. Definitely feel that I will be competent to check out Mike and Ike upon finishing.

As an associate professor doing research on quantum physics, I always wonder if there is a good book for advanced undergrads/entry-level grads so that I do not need to go over the unnecessary complications and bad writings with my students. This is the book that I will strongly recommend. You will learn the basics in an understandable way.

I like how this book explains everything from the very beginning - the engineering mechanism behind computing. I’ve always been perplexed by this and therefore could not grasp any programming logic. This books really makes it clear for me.

If your background is engineering, but you always wondered what’s the deal with this quantum computers, then that’s the book for you.

Kudos to the author for bridging this gap for the non- physicist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good content, good quality, but figures are hard to follow due to gray-scale printing.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 11, 2023
Useful book and well designed (size, weight, bonding etc.. so it can be read at bedtime). However, the b/w printing makes it impossible to read many of the figures (and there are necessarily many figures given the topic of the book). Not much to say about the content as I'm struggling with it right now.
Otherwise, product was promptly dispatched and arrived on time
