After completing a psychology degree, Alice Hunter became an interventions facilitator in a prison. There, she was part of a team offering rehabilitation programmes to men serving sentences for a wide range of offences, often working with prisoners who'd committed serious violent crimes. Previously, Alice had been a nurse, working in the NHS. She now puts her experiences to good use in fiction. The Serial Killer’s Wife, The Serial Killer’s Daughter and The Serial Killer’s Sister all draw heavily on her knowledge of psychology and the criminal mind.

Loved the book. The ending was a bit off putting. The lead character began to unravel into a different person.

It was a good story with a kind of twist at the end which I does enjoy. Honestly I rarely give lower than 4 stars, but based on the reviews and the notes on the cover I think I just expected more of a ride. It was definitely an interesting story and I enjoyed it but it was a slow burn that never really got quite where I’d hoped. There were some twists but not what I would expect from a psychological thriller.

This is my first book by Alice Hunter and it made me eager to read her second book, THE SERIAL KILLER'S DAUGHTER. As a true crime fan and a criminal justice major both as an undergraduate and graduate student I usually read nonfiction crime books. While I used to love reading mysteries and psychological thrillers I haven't in many years. On a whim I decided to read this one. I've often pondered how the families of murderers dealt with the slow rollout of their family members' guilt.
I wasn't expecting the story Alice Hunter laid out. It was riveting reading. Having various points of view from the characters pulled the reader into the heads of very different people and how they viewed what was happening. It was a very interesting way to set up the story. As well was moving from past to present as the chapters changed.
The tension was thick. Nerves were stretched taunt by events. Secrets and guilt abounded. This book had it all. I highly recommend it for lovers of psychological suspense. I will be beginning the second book in the series shortly.

An engrossing book with a nice, twisty ending. It's not going to cure cancer or bring world peace, but it's good escape reading when you just want to relax and let the world go by for a few hours.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Four stars because while I enjoyed it, it is more of a fade-away pleasure. I won't find myself thinking about it in the days and weeks after I read it. I read it, enjoyed it, and put it down.

I love a book that keeps surprising me.And this one surely did. I couldn't help but to find every excuse to get back to it.

This novel jumps back and forth between the twisted past and what lead to the murders. Then to the real time story of those in the present, mostly the wife of the murderer. This novel has dark graphic sexual content and isn’t for all readers. It’s has ok character development. It could have gone deeper in to why they became who they are.... the story line was well developed with realistic. I couldn’t put it down. It ended with a twist that left you wondering what would happen next.

Good plot which keeps you guessing and adds surprises bit by bit throughout the book. Also good pace and characters. A real "not put downable" - found myself still reading at 5 in the morning ! Near the end I guessed the twist but not the right person. The writer has kept hidden the possibility of a twist until right at the end and it is quite possible and logical without scrambling your brain unlike it is in some books by other writers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly gripping!

The Serial Killer’s Wife is a pacy and an utterly gripping thriller by Alice Hunter. Whenever serial killers are reported on in the news, people often think about the killer’s family. How is it possible that they didn’t know what was going on right under their nose? If they did know, why didn’t they have the courage to come forward and tell the police? It’s what Alice Hunter explores in her novel as she tells it from the point of view of Beth, the wife of the killer, Tom Hardcastle. Beth and their daughter mean everything to Tom. At one time, Tom meant everything to Beth. But when the police arrest him following the discovery of new evidence in an old murder case, she begins to question everything she thought she knew. It also puts her in a very uncomfortable position as people begin to look at her in a different light than they did before. Can she ever move on from this?

I really wanted to know what the bigger picture was here. As more cases that are linked to Tom come to light, I wanted to know if Beth played any involvement at all in what happened. It made for really gripping reading as Alice explored her character further. I felt as though I couldn’t quite trust her as the story developed.

Tom is a really intriguing character as well. As the police come closer to uncovering the truth about him, we begin to see his true colours emerge. I thought Alice Hunter developed his character really well and Beth’s character too, as she comes to terms with what is happening around her. It makes for really tense reading as the narrative flicks between their viewpoints.

The tension in the book really turns up a notch as Alice Hunter reveals what is really going on. The characters kept me gripped and turning the pages faster and faster as I raced towards the end. Alice Hunter made me think about how I would react if I was in the same position as them.

The Serial Killer’s Wife is an addictive psychological thriller, and I was desperate to find out how things were going to pan out in the end. If you’re looking for a twisty read that will grip you right from the first page, I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not the same story but great
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 2, 2024
OK. So this story is nothing like the TV series of the same name so no idea why it has a still from the series on the front cover. TV series was great, watchable nonsense and the book, although entirely different is also great, readable nonsense. I twigged the twist fairly early on but it didn't spoil it for me and I raced through it in 2 days. Very far fetched - are there really such terrible people out there? I'd hate to think so. Beth is a real piece of work, married to an equally bad piece of work. They deserve each other. Not great literature but very entertaining and I just bought the second one in the series. 99p of escapism. What more can you ask?
