"How do we bridge the gulf between us and them? Many American entrepreneurs may not be aware that such a gulf even exists. This is an insightful and practical book for any social entrepreneur seeking to bring about change in a community or culture that is not their own. Before charging forth blindly with good intentions, I'd strongly recommend reading this book." —Reuben Coulter, Social Entrepreneur, Investor, and Fellow of the World Economic Forum

What happens when it doesn't seem to work, or blows up? Sometimes we keep going. Often we start over, rinse and repeat. Tragically, it's easy to become disillusioned and quit.
Are we asking the right questions? Can we learn a better way? How can we make a lasting difference?
If these questions resonate with you like they do with me, read this book. Dr. Andrea Nelson Trice conducted research using personal interviews of those on the front lines throughout the world. She attacked the problem like Brené Brown, using subjective research techniques, while drawing on her personal experience, intuition, and passion to weave a path forward. Whatever you do, don't quit. And if you want your time, talent, and resources to make a lasting impact, read this book.
What resonated with me most was Trice's emphasis on the role of empathy and humility in fostering meaningful partnerships, as well as her practical insights on navigating challenges and conflicts that arise in collaborative efforts. I would recommend "Strong Together" to anyone involved in social change initiatives, from nonprofit leaders and community organizers to policymakers and philanthropists, seeking to maximize their impact through strategic collaboration and collective action.

Authored by an insightful commentator on development work, this book delves into the intricate dynamics of cross-cultural engagement in the realm of social entrepreneurship. As a seasoned Development Practitioner, I found the text highly relevant, addressing the nuanced challenges and potential pitfalls often encountered in the pursuit of international development.
The book's exploration of the evolving landscape of American contributions to Majority World countries, transitioning from traditional philanthropy to social enterprise, resonated deeply with my professional experiences. It skillfully dissects the equation for success in social entrepreneurship, emphasizing the importance of not just innovation and technical skills but also a profound understanding of local cultures and power dynamics. The inclusion of real-world examples, especially the case study illustrating both strengths and failures, adds a practical dimension to the theoretical discussions.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to fellow Development Practitioners, policymakers, and anyone involved in or interested in the evolving dynamics of international development. It provides valuable insights into the need for a holistic approach that integrates cultural understanding and human dynamics into the fabric of social enterprise initiatives. The thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter further enrich the reader's engagement, making it a must-read for those seeking a deeper understanding of effective and sustainable global development practices.
