Spike,35 Kills and Smiling (Spike, 35 Kills and Smiling Book 1) Kindle Edition
Spike's life, and many others, hinges on a thumb drive in this intense psychological thriller.
He is a killer by nature. This self-aware psychopath is now God-fearing—bad guys better pray harder.
After escaping the cartel, he’s on the run for his life. With no ID, no friends, and stolen money in his pocket, he must stay one step ahead of the men hellbent on murdering him.
The cartel wants their cash back, but Spike has something even more important; a thumb drive hidden in with the stolen money. For that, they're ready to steamroll anyone to get it back—birthday clowns, nuns, you name it. Hide your kittens. The order's out: “Find that drive, or else!”
When Spike winds up with a colorful and wild traveling companion on the run from her own demons, he knows better than to trust her. Unknown to them–the thumb drive ensures their deaths… or their salvation.
Trust is risky; the drive is lethal.
Trigger Warning
Spike is a psychopathic killer. Although I feel the book is written tastefully, with a minimum of gore, many people die violently. The f-word will be used, too, but nothing worse.

About the author
I enjoyed early success, becoming accepted into West Point and joining the Army for a 10-year career. However, the next seven years as a civilian were quite difficult and even included a bankruptcy.
Fortunately, I was able to start my own company with virtually no money of my own. With a few sacrifices and a lot of hard work, I became a millionaire just a few years later. Fast forward to today, with so many people out of work and millions of others struggling financially, I thought maybe I could help. Using my past experiences to help others succeed financially became my inspiration to write One Million in the Bank-How to Make $1,000,000 With Your Own Business Even If You Have No Money Or Experience.
Then over twenty years later I sold my company to care for my wife who has Parkinson's. I found writing crime/thriller fiction allows me to keep my mind engaged and time to care for my wife.

I am a sucker for a uniquely told and designed story. Even if you think you know what to expect from the cover, blurb, and reviews, I would prepare to be surprised.
Spike is a very bad guy on the inside, but such a nice guy on the outside. His motto is “Always be Smiling.” As well put together as a character can get. Well planned, well created, and interesting to boot. Well put together characters with a strong story that pushes you forward toward the end. Like any of Slavin's stories, the ending is strong and gets you excited for the next one.
I'll have to hold myself over with the Kill Crime series until the next one comes out.
But is Spike a psychopath? I'll let you be the judge. One thing's for sure—he wants to do better. But he must still kill people. I liked Spike: the novel and the character. Mike does a good job of fleshing Spike out. I believed Spike wanted to do well. I could feel his cognitive dissonance, the conflict between wanting to do good and feeling compelled to do something immoral and sinful. Mike also lays out some backstory for Spike, yet doesn't get bogged down and let the action fizzle. The result is a well-rounded character whose story you can't step away from until it's over.
Not to worry, there are other great characters, each with their issues, hopes, and dreams. Everybody wants something. Nobody knows what will happen next, certainly not the reader. The writing is engaging, and the twists are plenty. A thrilling page turner, Spike will no doubt keep your head spinning and your fingers tapping arrows. Put another one in the win column for Mike Slavin.
In this dark exploration of the mind of a sadistic murderer, Spike emerges as a compelling character with a surprisingly fun side. Mike Slavin skillfully navigates the grim narrative surrounding sociopaths, successfully making Spike a likable figure. Despite the book's dark tones, I found myself cheering for Spike at times, captivated by his exciting and action-packed journey with tons of twists and turns. I could not put it down!
about a psychopathic killer that wanted to be good after finding God. I couldn’t wait to get back
to it. There’s tons of believable action, story and plots twists
and turns. Then the ending! You won’t see it coming.
Fast paced and never a dull moment. Spike is running from a legion of cartel members who
want something back. But he even gets involved, accidentally, in a back ops mission in South
America.
Grabbed me at the start and never let go. Loved it!
His storytelling is very strong with a story that chilling serial killer as the main character, the wight of a drug cartel trying to kill him, and just the right dose of thought-provoking content.
What truly sets "SPIKE" apart is Slavin's skill in character development. The reader dives deep into the mind of a complex character. It is seldom black or white, for Spike or his supporting cast. There’s a lot of grey. He has breathed life into his characters and makes them leap off the pages and into the reader's imagination.
As a dedicated follower of Slavin’s work, I can't help but admit my bias. Full disclosure: I reserve time to devour his latest creations when I'm not immersed in my own writing endeavors. I feel Mike Slavin has etched his name alongside other great authors of his genre.
If you like Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher, John Wick or Dexter, it's time to make room on your list for a new entrant—Spike. He isn't just a character; he's the next man up in the pantheon of crime fiction.
