One Dead Jazzman (A Sleepy Carter Mystery - Book 7) (Sleepy Carter Mysteries) Kindle Edition

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

Saxophone Bo has been playing jazz tunes on the same Bourbon Street corner for over fifty years. He's always been a crowd favorite because of his skills, personality, and the thing that makes him stand apart from the other musician's roaming the French Quarter...he's blind.

When Saxophone Bo is found dead at the spot that he stood at for decades, the locals and police are baffled. Why would anyone murder such a kind man? And why did the murderer leave Bo's money and his most prized possession, his saxophone, untouched? Trying to catch the killer seems impossible since there were no witnesses or apparent motive. But Sleepy Carter is determined to not let this case go unsolved. Why? Because Saxophone Bo was Sleepy Carter's uncle.

I feel like as I read the series, that Lizzy, Sleepy Carter and I are solving crimes LOL! You really do feel connected with the characters and invested in keeping the city safe. I was so proud that I was right about the killer, but soooo wrong about the motive. I am still learning along with Lizzy. on building investigative skills :). As a sidebar...Sleepy and his conscience are difficult to watch as they battle each other. It is almost like he is trying to put himself in a position to be found out to free his mind, and I am torn because much like his next door neighbor, I feel no good can come from this. Well...in any event the next book will be coming soon and I am here for it!!

Sleepy Carter is the most compelling character I’ve encountered during a lifetime of reading mysteries. The author’s imagination and attention to detail is unparalleled. This is a must read series!

I’ve got to admit that these books never bore me. I’ve read all the sleepy carter mysteries and am always amazed at who the killer actually is. Another NOLA mystery is solved.

Another great Sleepy Carter mystery in a long line of great mysteries (7). He and Libby, his mentee, are a match made in heaven. She admires his expertise and he has such patience with her inexperience. Please, more Sleepy Carter stories.

I do have a few questions though like what happened with the Mayor and Superintendent of Police, the "file" with pictures of Libby and Hollis that the Superintendent started, etc. Looking forward to these things being addressed in the next book.

These stories are so delightful!! I've read all of the 'Sleepy' series and I so look forward to every book. I am also looking forward to the TV series that you are working on. I think that Samuel L. Jackson would be perfect as 'Sleepy'!!

Brian Smith is such a fantastic author. I read his books so fast . Brian needs to write a Sleepy Carter mystery book once a week
for me. Please please please make this a television series, and Brian hurry and write another sleepy Carter book. I’m already going through withdrawals.

I always enjoy reading a Sleepy Carter mystery and the chemistry between Sleepy and Lizzy. From what I've read, I know there is going to be a Book 8. A few things left undone and I'll just leave it at that.

I enjoyed this latest installment of the Sleepy Carter series. This is my favorite book within the series thus far, being a fan of jazz music. I can't wait for the next book.
