I enjoyed this book. Although it wasn’t as advertised as you couldn’t put it down. It was pretty layer back as thrillers go. It keep you interest but I knew the ending before I read it. It was written well and ended happily ever after as they say. Yes I would recommend the book to my friends whom like thrillers, and ask what they think. I will continue to read this author and enjoy her tales.

Dr. Alison Wilson takes a new job as medical director at a beachside hospital in the fictional small town of Wayleigh after resigning from her previous post in London. Several mysteries quickly ensue. First, many of the townspeople exhibit hostility toward her when they find out she has moved into the home of the prior medical director besides having taken over his position. This is mysterious in itself, as it is later revealed that the prior medical director, Dr. Richard Atkinson, is a drug addict and not the most sympathetic character not to mention the fact that he was fired because he was doing such a bad job. So, why such fierce loyalty from the townsfolk? Second, several patients have been dying unexpectedly. Third, the hospital has been using faulty defibrillators, which might have contributed to the higher-than-expected death rates.
The story is told mostly from the viewpoint of Dr. Wilson, but a small portion is told from the viewpoint of the killer whose identity is a mystery until the end.
While this book may be an interesting read, it was unsatisfying in the way it wrapped things up at the end. Instead of Dr. Wilson and the detectives on the case gradually working things out on their own, the killer confesses to Dr. Wilson revealing all the secrets to the above mysteries with the idea that Dr. Wilson won’t be alive to tell anyone. There is also the problem of things wrapping up so hurriedly that a lot of loose ends remain. Why did the people who hired Dr. Wilson to fix things at their hospital show no interest and were hostile to her when she tried to tell them about the faulty equipment and the unexpected deaths? What happened with her ex-husband? The killer was able to get into Dr. Wilson’s laptop and keep up with all the password changes yet we never get a sense of how the killer acquired this knowledge and ability. The killer is obviously a psychopath, but these tendencies are not revealed in her character until the very end.
My diagnosis: “The Doctor” has Premature Conclusion Syndrome.
My treatment plan: Doctor “The Doctor.”

This is my first book from this author. As an ER provider, I understood the medical side of the story and that seemed to add to the suspense and enjoyment.

Alison Wilson, a hospital doctor from a large London hospital moved to a small seaside town as a means of starting over. As the Medical Director at a failing hospital, she had her work cut out for her. Upon arrival, strange things started happening immediately. She often felt like she was being followed, defibrillators were malfunctioning causing unexpected deaths, controlled substances were disappearing, reports were being changed, and scheduled meetings were being cancelled,
The more she investigated into the mysterious happenings, the worse things became. Who was to blame?

This was a fast-paced medical thriller that held my attention cover to cover. The storyline kept me on the edge of my seat as there were many twists and turns. Who was the killer? The suspected culprit changed from chapter to chapter.

The characters and plot were well developed. I felt like I was right there with Alison, feeling her fear and frustration, and need to solve the mystery unfolding in her hospital. I enjoyed this book immensely and look forward to reading anything else that Annie writes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers or mysteries.

I am grateful to Author Annie Payne, Harper Collin Publishers, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this Advanced Reader’s Copy. This is a voluntary review, and all comments and opinions are entirely my own.

Fast paced, kept you guessing til the end. Multiple people who might benefit from her failure, but how far they would go is shocking.

I enjoy reading a mystery when there is an AHA moment…I thought to myself…I know who is guilty. This book was that. Oh, there were red herrings and secrets. I was thrown off course a few times. In the end, I just knew and could not wait for that person to get caught. This is a fun mystery to read. The characters are realistic, and the story moves quickly. There is one timeline, written in the third person…my favorite. Just like an Agatha Christie. Beginning, middle, end…no trying to discern in which time period the book is at any certain page. Thanks to this talented author and the publisher for this delightful book. Although the subject is trying, the ending is great. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. I liked this book.
