On the distant planet Aurora Saura, where your body is not your own, the good people cower in basements to avoid the scavengers plaguing the skies. Not far away, on a plateau crisp with ice, an alien overlord toils relentlessly to keep his species whole. And in the sandstone streets of Merrocha, a young girl peddles her father’s tinctures and potions, unaware of the imminent cosmic intervention that’s about to unfold.

Kyjta is a deft hand at administering her father’s potions, even when she shouldn’t. Her face is marked by an alien brand that sparkles like tears picking up starlight, and she’s far too busy plotting revenge to notice one very important fact.

What an intense ride this book is! The world building was both phenomenal and fascinating. It had lots of good twists and action with a little romance. I would say this book is definitely for older teens with some of the violence. If you like 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘎𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 trilogy, this would be a good recommendation for you. ⁣⁣

This was my first book of a Dystopian theme - so the language and names took a little to get used to, but was easy enough and I really loved the book. It was packed with non-stop action, something always happening or about to. The humanity of those who aren't supposed to feel anything was depicted beautifully. Can't wait for the next 2 books!! I'm hooked!

The Quelling is a beautifully written, riveting dystopian novel, rich in language and plot development. C.L. Lauder truly creates a world like no other, wild beyond our imagination. Juxtaposed are truly unique individuals and manufactured bodies, but when you are stained, there is a target on your back. Beautiful descriptions, amazing character development, and nonstop action that will captivate the reader, The Quelling is a young adult novel as unique and special as the world it portrays!

In all honesty, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the book as much as I did, as I tend to prefer non-fiction. That being said, by the time I was half-way through the book I was sold, hook, line and sinker. When I first started reading, I was taken by how different Kyjta’s reality was from mine. I actually kind of struggled a bit to open my mind and accept the rules/ways of life on Aurora Saura and allow myself to become immersed. I consider myself a fairly logical thinker so accepting things like ghoragalls, the Tarrohar, potions, etc. instead of dismissing them as impractical fantasies was difficult, but once I did and got farther along in the book, I realized that the problems faced by the different groups on Aurora Saura aren’t so different from those faced in the real world. In the end, I was very impressed that a fantasy novel was able to get me to think deeply about the social structure of my own world in a way not dissimilar to some of the nonfiction books I’m fond of reading. Additionally, I found that plot to be unpredictable in an enjoyable way. Every time I thought I knew what direction the book was going to take I was pleasantly proven incorrect. Overall, great read that will let you escape from everyday life for a little bit!

I absolutely LOVED The Quelling and highly recommend this book. From the first page, you'll be captivated by this out of world journey into the lives of Kyjta and Kranik. What an adventure it is that the author takes you. Binge reading The Quelling is a great escape and I can't wait for the second book in this trilogy to be released.

The Quelling is an engaging fantasy novel that grabs you from the beginning and keeps you coming back for more. Creatures taking over the bodies of others makes them hard to know who you are truly dealing with. The only way to truly know? Pay attention to their behavior...look for tells.
Packed with engaging characters, this storyline flows beautifully as it lays out a story that tells of a people being used for another's future plans of war and conquer. But it goes beyond Aurora Saura. This fantasy novel is bigger than that. It crosses galaxies and brings the drama to Earth's doorstep.
The Quelling is a page-turner of a novel with monsters, aliens, dynamic characters, and a storyline you're not going to want to miss out on.

This is not a quick five minute read. The Quelling is a story that you can sink your teeth into. CL. Lauders descriptions will leave your brain imprinted with their imagery long after you have put the book down. That’s IF you can put it down!
It’s a literary and visual feast for the senses!
If you love science fiction and fantasy you will love this excellent experience of a novel. I will look forward to the next one to continue the saga.

From the first page you are thrown into the action. Gripping from the start and addictive all the way through. Lots of interesting characters, a fast paced story and unique method of story telling. A wonderful new world to be a part of. The only disappointment is that I have to wait for the next one! I will be first in line. I would highly recommend a read.
