Susan Hanafee ❤️ loved this book because...

Funny, clever, made me laugh. Dave Barry is always a good read, especially if you like books about whacky Florida, which I do because I live here and totally get it.

6 authors picked Swamp Story as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Pulitzer Prize–winning New York Times bestselling author and actual Florida Man Dave Barry returns with a Florida caper full of oddballs and more twists and turns than a snake slithering away from a gator.

Jesse Braddock is trapped in a tiny cabin deep in the Everglades with her infant daughter and her ex-boyfriend, a wannabe reality TV star who turned out to be a lot prettier on the outside than on the inside. Broke and desperate for a way out, Jesse stumbles across a long-lost treasure, which could solve all her problems—if she can figure out how to keep it.…

My 2nd favorite read in 2024

Book cover of Knock Three-One-Two

Susan Hanafee ❤️ loved this book because...

Fredric Brown was a well-known author in the 1950s. Stephen King attributed the scariest words ever written to him: "The last man on Earth sat alone in a room. There was a knock at the door." From Knock by Fredric Brown (1948). The talent of these writers from the past should not be forgotten. This was a great read.

By Fredric Brown,

Why should I read it?

1 author picked Knock Three-One-Two as one of their favorite books, and they share why you should read it.

What is this book about?

Written late in his career and while at the height of his powers, KNOCK-THREE-ONE-TWO is Fredric Brown's tour de force of suspense. Taking place over the span of a single evening, we find a city enflamed by fear. A serial killer is on the loose, and while the maniac ties the city into knots, the lives of ordinary citizens are drawn into an inescapable spiral of greed and chance. Brown, purveyor of the surprise ending, does not disappoint. Step now into a world of shadow and anxiety. You need only knock 3-1-2.

What's not to like about a Walter Mosley book. While Devil in a Blue Dress is still my favorite, this is a good read as well.

Don‘t forget about my book 😀

Scavenger Tides

By Susan Hanafee,

Book cover of Scavenger Tides

What is my book about?

When Leslie Elliott quits her public relations job up north and moves with her contrarian mother to a small Florida island to write mysteries, it doesn't take her long to realize the truth of the comment by her new friend, Deb Rankin: "No one around here minds their own business unless they're up to no good. And there's plenty of no good in this place."

Hungry buzzards lead Leslie to an abandoned house where she discovers the carcass of a headless dog whose owner seems to be missing. Sightings of a human body on the beach fuel Leslie's obsessive curiosity. Her search for answers puts her at odds with the local sheriff and places her new island friends in jeopardy.

Kirkus Reviews recommends a "get it." "Fresh catch grilling, red wine swilling and a perplexing killing fill this breezy beach read."
