Degradation (The Kane Trilogy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 2,335 ratings

Eighteen year old Tatum O'Shea is a naive, shy, little rich girl. Twenty-three year old Jameson Kane is smart, seductive, and richer. They come together for one night, one explosion, one mistake, and Tate is hurled into space – no family, no money, and no Jameson.

Seven years later, life is going pretty good for Tate, when she runs into Jameson again. This time, she thinks she's ready for him. She doesn't have a naive bone left in her body, and she can't even remember what shy feels like. Jameson has evolved, as well – sharp words, sharper wit, and a tongue that can cut her in half. It all sounds like fun to a woman like Tate, and she is ready to play, determined to prove that she isn't the same girl he conquered once before. A series of games start, each one more devious than the last.

But as the line between games and reality becomes blurry, Tate quickly learns that Jameson has most definitely earned his nickname, “Satan”. Can she beat him at his own game before someone gets hurt? Or will he leave her soulless, making him the winner, once and for all?

About the Author

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT. I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me. Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

This story is delicious and absolutely heartbreaking. Not for the faint of heart, heavy triggers but if you can handle it, 100% worth every second.

Holy cow, part of me is wondering what the heck I just read, but at the same time, impressed with the characterization of Tate and Jameson. Their relationship, if it could be called that, is unlike anything I've read in a long time. Tate is the good girl on the inside and outside when she was a college bound high school graduate. An encounter with Jameson, who at the time was her older sister's boyfriend, changes her and alters her life afterwards such that Tate is now a wild and indulgent girl who lives in the moment. They meet again 7 years later. She still has that good girl side to her on the inside, but otherwise she's always ready for a good time without looking too far ahead into the future. Jameson, who is basically Satan, is a true a$$hole. He's rich, successful and intelligent, but he also has no regard for emotions or attachments. Jameson really fascinated me despite how awful he could be because he was beyond rude and so calculating. He had definite boundaries as far as what he would or wouldn't do and when it came to Tate, there weren't very many. Basically he enjoyed being in power and treating Tate like she was so beneath him and Tate took it because she didn't mind and she gave everything she had. They both engaged in these games with each other and couldn't resist the challenge and they weren't exclusive even though they had an arrangement. It would seem like Tate was a total tool but I never thought that way, because she knew exactly what she was doing and had no pretenses or apologies about any of it. She wasn't sitting there holding out hope for love even if she did have some feelings grow within her. Jameson could say the most awful things and he lived his life with no apologies. It would seem like Jameson is the villain here, he's definitely an easy target as far as pointing fingers as to who has more flaws stacked against them or comes across heartless. However, Tate has some very child-like qualities to her as well, the way she doesn't plan ahead and while it may not matter to her, Jameson sees that Tate has so much more potential in life and isn't using it, which almost gives him more fodder to degrade her because she doesn't have higher aspirations. Even so, regardless of their personalities, an arrangement such as theirs isn't meant to last and when the time comes, it is under less than ideal circumstances where maybe even a friendship isn't salvageable. This book really sucked me in the way that everyone is so dysfunctional and at the same time, how accepting the characters are of one another. With that kind of ending, it leaves me no choice but to pick up the next book and see what happens next.

Finally a book that stands out from a saturated market. Although having a lot of books to choose from is not a bad thing, but I've been getting bored with the same formulated romance novel. I've been in a book slump lately, but this finally snapped that.

Things that really separated this book from all the others (for me):

1. Tatum: She's a strong female character! I'm so glad this heroine didn't blush at any inappropriate comment like so many do. She could dish it out, be vulgar, and make me laugh. Usually when I hear the word feisty, I tend to think more negative personality traits and tend not to like the character. However, Tate is the first heroine that was feisty, but still a friendly person. She wasn't rude to anyone, but she didn't get stepped on either.

2. Jameson: I've never met an alpha quite like him. Sure, some have had traits similar to his but he's the only one that stayed consistent with how he was explained. The author showed us instead of told us, that doesn't happen often. I loved that although they weren't committed to a future and a happily ever after, he still said nice things. He wasn't cold and emotionless.

3. The overall plot: While they were playing games with one another and trying to get one on the other person, they still were honest with each other. I respected that.

4. It's been a long time since I've read sex scenes fully. To be honest, I've read so many that I feel like 'I've been there, done that' and end up skimming through those scenes. However, that was not the case with this book. I've never read a book with scenes like this and I enjoyed them. Their sex was important because they could fully be themselves and trust their insecurities with the other one. As Tate said, it was a way to get treated like she wanted, but would only allow it because she trusted him to stop if needed.

I can see some people having a hard time accepting this book because of the content involved in the bedroom. That's obviously okay, we all like different things. However, I just wanted to explain why I did like it so maybe someone can see a different pov. I think some people hear something they wouldn't be okay with and think "That's wrong" without thinking why a personality is the way it is. Is my sex life like this in the book? No. However, we all need and like different things. While I agree that there doesn't always have to be a reason to like something, it can just be that you enjoy it, it's apparent to me that Tate does have reasons. Mainly dealing with her father; they've never had a great relationship. He calls her names and treats her badly. However, in the bedroom she can control that and put a stop to it. She is the one in control. As I mentioned, we are entitled to our own opinions but at least think about why something is happening, instead of making a quick judgment.

Honestly, the characters, chemistry and sexual scenes are really poor.
I'm happy I bought the kindle version instead of spending 15€ on this.
Tatum has those “pick me” lines and attitude stacked up, she just keeps them coming, she never stops.
Blue-eyed butter boy doesn't have anything to offer except for some dry hard thrusting and... Yeah that's about it. Like BDSM where ?
The writing is addictive I can say though, nevertheless, i won’t be reading the other books it was kind of a waste of time considering a lot of Wattpad stories are better.

This was my second time reading Degradation and it was even better this time. The story is gripping, unrelenting, and sooo hot !! I absolutely loved the characters. Jameson, Tate, and Sanders are all unapologetic and real and the emotional depth of each character is outstanding. Jameson and Tate have one night of hot sex while he is dating her sister. Seven years later they run into each other and so starts a game of hot sex and hurt feelings. I won't go into details about the story as it will ruin the book for you but I wil tell you, whether you are into cheating, degradation, or kink this is a must read. The story has layers and layers of depth that will leave you with your mouth wide open wondering what the hell you just read.

Angela ~ Jezabell Girl & Friends
5.0 out of 5 stars Loved The Game!!!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 31, 2015
Eeek now that was a story to whet most whistles! And when I say most, I mean those of us with a penchant for dark and dirty storylines with a hint of romance. This isn't a story for the lighthearted. It has consensual abuse and plenty of rough sex so what made it so special. Simple, it was brilliantly written. I have no idea why I haven't read anything by Stylo Fantome before but I'm hooked and going to see the story through one delicious morsel at a time.

Jameson Kane is probably the king of alphas. There is something he is hiding behind his darkness and I guess time will reveal exactly what it is. Tatum is also a dream female character. She is feisty and happy to feed off what Kane has to offer her, mostly, and is quick witted enough to challenge his domineering ways. When they come together their escapades are literally earth shattering.

Kane and Tatum fight for overall dominance as they fight to each win the ultimate game! As the story develops though, so do Tatum's feelings for Kane but that part of the game was unscripted and isn't what Kane is looking for, or is he?

There is also a sweet story developing on the side with Kane's assistant, Sanders and I can't wait to see what his story is both past and future. We also have a complicated story to live out through Ang, Tatum's best friend - with benefits, as he tries to comes to terms with Tatum's feelings for Kane.

So if you're looking for something a little dirtier and something to rock your reading world, then you have to give The Kane Trilogy a go, you won't be disappointed. Be warned though, this ends on one hell of a cliffie!!!
