Pam Wilkins hates her life. She doesn't have much going for her. Her boyfriend beats her, she looks like the back end of a bus and she's skint. To top it all off, she cleans up other people's sh*t for a living. While she's at work scrubbing a toilet, a Djinn appears in a puff of smoke and grants her six wishes. All she has to do to make her dreams come true, is commit the most heinous, atrocious acts imaginable. Six wishes for six atrocities. It's a no-brainer. Pam will do ANYTHING to get what she wants. But she soon discovers that the price she must pay is far higher than she ever imagined... WARNING FROM THE AUTHOR: This book is offensive. It is not intended for readers of a sensitive disposition. It is hardcore splatterpunk with lashings of violence, sex and gore.

Read this so fast, could not wait to see if Pam actually went through with all of her tasks. I will admit that I did skip some parts and skim some others, just too yukky and stomach turning for me. Loved the book though, I knew there was going to be some bad twists, things were going too smoothly! Hated (loved) the ending, all through the book you are waiting for the other shoe to drop and BAM! It sure f'd her, poor Pam!

Let me first start off with saying that this story is waaaaaay more 'Extreme' than I'd normally reading. If you're into that, this book is for you. Sam West does some truly awful stuff to his characters. I've read 'Extreme' novels from other authors and this certain tops all the rest. I'm not sure I'd read another 'Extreme' novel of Mr. West, but I'd read a normal novel for sure.

Even with the gross and disturbing scenes. I finished the book within a day, even staying up later than I should have. It was an interesting story and I always wanted to know what's next. What would the next wish be? What would she have to do for that wish? What's going to happen in the end? I just had to know.

The only criticism I have is that there was some coincidences in the book where I was like, "Really? This sure is an awful place to live." This coincidences would then usually bring about a depraved scene.

Thanks for a good book, Sam West.

If you're looking for an edge of your seat, suspense and gore fest kind of horror novel then this is not the book to get. If you're looking for a book that focuses more on the gross out factor based on things related to disgusting hygiene and body functions, not unlike an extreme form of what's often referred to as "potty humour", such as an exceptionally in depth description of drinking out of a toilet bowl that has feces floating in it, then grab this book. Personally I found the so called horror portions of this book to be absolutely disgusting, but not in the blood and guts kind of horror that I would enjoy. The story had a great concept and this author can definitely write well, painting a picture with words incredibly well, thus the three stars. If only his concept of horror and mine were in the same ballpark because then I would go looking for more of his books to read. However I prefer horror that leaves me feeling scared, anxious, maybe even wanting a light left on. Instead I got gross visuals that all seemed to revolve around disgusting non-hygiene in exceptional descriptions that didn't horrify me as much as it just plain made me sick with disgust. As for the warning that this isn't a book for those easily offended, I am someone who is very hard to offend, or even disgust. My career has exposed me to the worst, the ugliest, and the some of the most depraved, and even physically disgusting people one can encounter, and while it can make a hard day of work harder, this book takes those experiences to a whole new level, and not in a good way. I'm sure there are readers who may enjoy this type of gross out "horror" but to me it's not actually horror it's just plain disgusting.

You're in for a wild ride. Sam West comes at you no holds bar. Leave your humanity at the door and enter her twisted world in this great read.

Yep, depravity. And I loved it... I have a pretty strong stomach and I am not squeamish, but there were a few times in this book that I had to step away and come back to it (only other book that made me do that was "Exquisite Corpse" by Poppy Z. Brite). What fantastic imagery and description! I was properly disgusted a few times and that's what made it so awesome. I will definitely seek out Sam West in the future. I really enjoy the splatterspunk sub-genre and he is a fine addition to it.

This is a great new author who holds nothing back. His story idea, characters, the story arc, and the pacing were unbelievable. I was captivated from the start. Some of the events in this novella were gross, but that's the point of horror, isn't it? I just wish he wrote novels. I gave his other titles a look, and they're all novellas. But not everybody has it for full-length books. Nothing to be ashamed of; Lovecraft and Poe didn't.

This book was graphic and dark and I really enjoyed it. It has very disturbing sexual situations and there are totrure, rape, cannabslism and lots of killing. If your sensitive to any of those then skip this book! It has some really disgusting scenes that made me gag, but I kept reading because it was so interesting.

I think the writer of this book is perverse and disturbed, I would not recommend this book to anyone that I like. I feel like my mind was raped. I don't know why I bothered to finish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caused a physical reaction!

A very well written and compelling read with a couple of described scenes that were so detailed, knarly and utterly disgusting it caused a real, physical reaction in me. (Nausea)
Rarely has a piece of fiction and descriptive writing affected me this way, which to me is praise to the creativity and skill in the writing. Certainly not for the squeamish!

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this book by Sam West.

This was the first book I have read by author Sam West so was not sure what to expect. The story gets off to a gripping start and continues to surprise throughout. The story flows well with twists but may not be to everyone’s taste, it is an “Extreme Horror” so please take note if you are easily grossed out.

I really enjoyed reading it and will be looking to purchase further novels from this author.
If you enjoy extreme horror novels then Sam West’s Djinn is one you should really look at getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't stop reading!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2015
This story, as with all of Mr West's books, grabbed me and drew me right in from the start and the story unfolded very quickly and grew more riveting (and gruesome) with each chapter. Pam is a woman who has absolutely nothing going for her in life - and only a genie could be her saviour - but this genie is not all it seems. She is offered six wishes in return for carrying out evil and depraved acts which grow more sickening as the story goes on, and of course, she wants her wishes, so she is willing to do literally anything the genie asks.

I don't want to give too much away but each task becomes more grim than the one before it, and with it, she takes on her own kind of madness that enables her to carry it out. And of course, a genie who makes such evil demands is obviously not to be trusted, but she takes the game to the end and when we find out what the twist is, its a clever one. I did not see that coming.

This book was one I could not put down, each time I read a book by this author I'm up late and reading on because I'm drawn in. And I did think the way the djinn's face was obscured was a great idea - an unearthly character should have some mystery, and by making his features obscured allows the reader to imagine him any way they see fit, adding another dimension to pull in the reader, into a story that jumps to life from the start and unfolds in a vivid and bloody tale that certainly lives up to its claim of extreme horror.

I thoroughly recommend this book - another great work from a gifted author.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pornography not Horror
Reviewed in Australia on March 11, 2015
This is not horror, the author to try to shock the reader through violent and extreme pornographic imagery, I read it, to see if it got any better, then the end came, very poor effort to be honest, very poor ending.
